Today’s bowl of meepok started off promising, fried lard is fresh and crispy, noodles not too soggy and not too dry. Then it went down hill, the saltiness came through. The noodle sauce, the soup are all almost too salty to continue. And finally I found the culprit: fish ball. The fish ball is super salty. And by the end of the meal, there is also a pile of inedible (mystery) meat on the tray. Typically some stray pieces of inedible pork parts get into the Bak Chor, but today the inedible parts is just too much. This stall better start to improve on its ingredient selection. The coffeeshop stall not tall far away is beating this shop (2 shops actually) at the moment in terms of quality and waiting time.

Lousier than the original place at Suy EU Tua, Jalan Tua Kong, but better than the shop diagonally across the road (the non air-conditioned one). The noodles and sauce combination is tasty but the chili and lard combination got no kick. Fishballs so so quality. The springy noodle texture and the crunchy bean sprouts saved it a little but not enough to make me travel here.

A good bowl of BCM. Its filled with ingredients and sauce just right, mee pok was well cooked. Fish ball is abit too salty, the rest is okay. Dumpling soup was tasty, filling was good. We reached abt 2pm and wait for noodles was around 15 mins.

Not worth the money. Small starts from $5.5. you can get almost the same value from $3.5 elsewhere. I have to commend the crispy fried for pork lard and the handmade meatballs, but these do not justify the premium and the long waits. Expect to sit under the humid sun for atleast half an hour during non-peak hours. It's surprising they take that long considering that they have a platoon of atleast 5 in the kitchen. I'll be back in a few months to judge again.

Conveniently located at simpang bedok. The art of mee pok was quite a surprise as usually people will make a comparison with this and the tai hwa's bak chor mee. I would say this comes close to it without having to wait extremely long to get your food. There are plenty of seats and they offer good sizing for the bcm. It comes in S / M / L Ordered 1 Small and Medium and difference would be that Medium has prawns and slightly more noodles. Sauce was generously given which makes their noodle super flavourful however it lacks the vinigerish punch that Tai Hwa offers. Regardless its still delicious. I would say their handmade fish ball and meat ball is the clear winner as both were freshly made , juicy and tender! Lastly their soup is as delicious but Tai Hwa's added ingredients of the seaweed in their soup, along with fried wanton, salted cuttlefish just gives it that small edge above. Regardless if you're ever in the east side do give it a try its still one of the better BCM in Singapore!

Large Lau Lim signature noodle ($7.50) - 1 meatball, 2 fishballs, 3 prawns, mix of vinegar, ketchup, chilli flavours in sauce. The mee kia was good. Slightly better than Jalan Tua Kong Ah Lim Mee Pok Noodle. But it was a 45 minute wait at lunchtime on a weekend. Lau Lim signature dumpling soup ($6) - 6 large dumplings. Ok.

Heard this was popular, so decided to give it a try. Had to wait 20 minutes during off peak. Ordered 6.5 (medium), and received a small bowl which probably costs around $3.5 or $4 elsewhere. "Must be the taste," I thought. I wasn't impressed. Handmade fishball was commendable, but everything else falls flat. Not worth the premium and waiting time.

Mee Pok at the front, Kopi and Kaya Toast in the back. I will share some of my favourite hacks and tips in this review. Expect long waiting times for the Mee pok - Today I waited about 40mins but you can wait anywhere between 15-60 mins. Hack #1: Chope one of the seats at the side aisle, in the middle nearer to the back when you reach. It’s much cooler in the shade and make sure you get a table that’s on flat ground. Also beware of sneaky birds that like to come and steal food. Hack #2: Order a $5 kaya toast set and drink from the back stall while you wait for your noodles. The kaya toast is pretty ok, not bad but not fantastic either. 1 set for 2-3 pax sharing is perfect to satisfy you while you wait but not enough to fill you up. Hack #3: Hot lemon tea (off menu) is better than the lousy kopi. Order a hot Teh O with a slice of lemon in the morning. Very sweet and refreshing taste, guaranteed to wake you up with a smile. Cup size is small though. Hack #4: Noodles come in S/M/L sizes, just order the small mee pok with chilli. If you need more food order a bowl of fishball soup / carrot cake. Dumplings are so-so. The noodle portion is small but sufficient for a normal meal. Of course, feel free to upsize if you’re a big eater. Hack #5: Now comes my favourite hack. Remember the soft boiled eggs from the kaya toast set? Add them to the noodles and mix well. The egg yolk makes the mee pok so damn creamy and delicious. Really goes super well with the chilli, noodles and the fishballs. Remember you have to buy them separately at the front and back stalls, but it’s SO WORTH IT. Overall, yes the food is on the pricier side. It’s been gentrified over the years and and probably tastes different from the OG Ah Lim Mee Pok. But can’t deny that the food is damn good. Worth it!
