★ ★ ★ ★ ★ After reading good reviews at The Flying Squirrel, my friend and I decided to book us a table for lunch. We both ordered the TFS Premium Sashimi Bento in great anticipation.
We didn’t have to wait long for our food. Halfway through our meal, we realized there was no sight of uni which is stated in the menu. So we spoke to a server who then informed us that uni was not fresh so they will replace it with toro for us. But we were not told of this from the start or till we asked, which shouldn’t be the case. And if we didn’t ask, we would have paid the premium set with no uni or replacement. The replacement toro slice came and we continued with our meal.
Then I noticed my pathetic looking slice of tuna. I have never been served tuna sashimi in this torn looking state before and definitely wasn’t expecting it from TFS especially after all those good reviews online. The explanation we got was it was cut like this by the supplier.
Throughout the whole time, we saw one server not wearing his mask properly.
The bill for 2 pax came up to $182.43 for 2 TFS Premium Sashimi Bento + 200ml sake. The whole experience was beyond disappointing.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ One of a kind experience at the Flying Squirrel. Nice restaurant at a corner of Amoy Street that exceeded my expectations. Waiter and waitress were helpful with the recommendations.
Pictured is the Tuna & Avocado Tacos, Crunchy Unagi Maki, and the Spicy Salmon Handroll. All three were really good, especially the tacos which were really special.
We will be back to The Flying Squirrel!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The food was great although on the pricier side but its definitely worth it!
We had the Garlic Butter Udon, Seaweed Crab Taco, Tako Wasabi, Salmon Belly Tempura and Salmon Sashimi. All didn't disappoint and will be back to try more!
Service was great too! Choose bar seats if you can to see the chefs in action! We love it.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ “The food was great but other areas could be improved”
Been wanting to try the dinner menu for the longest time and my friend made a booking for a Friday dinner. As usual, there are dine in timing limits, and the wait-staff will be sure to remind you of it, albeit a little too enthusiastically.
About the food, it was really great, we ordered a hamachi carpaccio, both crab and tuna & avacado, wagyu udon soup, truffle steak donburi and some raw fish. All of the items that we ordered hit hard, and was really fresh and amazingly delicious. The cocktail that we’ve ordered, the sakura, was great as well.
I’ve understood the need for tables to the turned-over but the incessant reminders can really leave a bad taste in your mouth. And that marred the dining experience. Service wise, it was okay, and the staff were patient in explaining the menu items. However, if you are a big group, you may find that the space is a little lacking.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ **I highly recommend the Ebi Truffle Fry. really delicious! **
Nice casual Japanese restaurant with friendly service. We tried a few dishes and especially liked the salmon maki, salmon nigiri, salmon belly hand roll, and tuna seaweed tacos. The Ebi truffle fry were delicious and well cooked. I wouldn’t order again the chicken gyoza and California maki, they were ok, nothing special.
Enjoyed the meal but found it overpriced ($150 including two drinks) hence why four stars. I would visit again.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Heard a lot of good things about this place as being underrated & it definitely did not disappoint!! We came here for a special date night and were delighted by the wide-ranging & innovative menu.
My favourite dish was the truffle hamachi carpaccio. The hamachi was so fresh and tender. The truffle was not needed but seemed to add an aesthetic touch. On the other hand, the scotch eggs were the least special imo, I think can do without! Special mention to the tacos which were very unique, Japanese-inspired tapas. Not pictured is the wagyu udon that we also ordered and gobbled down happily. I’m not normally a fan of udon but these were silky and soft. I really enjoyed them.
We also had a sake-tini as a cocktail. The drinks were quite strong imo! But it was nice. The servers were very nice to us as well and let us use an extra table because of all the food we ordered. Overall, this place had a very cozy night kinda vibe and it’s definitely a great experience to try if you enjoy eclectic food influences and interesting cocktails

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This place means a lot to me, but I come back a lot not just for the sentimental value. The food here is simply sumptuous. It’s all really simple, but quality ingredients that comes together nicely. The ratio of each ingredients is always just right and the house pours are good too. Nice cosy bar with good and efficient service. May be a bit pricey but I know they’ll never disappoint. I always get the tacos and shrimp roll, and here and there I’ll try other stuff on the menu. Thank you flying squirrel team!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Great dining experience. Wonderful friendly and casual service. Not too stuffy. Small space but more spacious than most izakaya due to social distancing. Love the details given on the food. Proper sushi rice was used. Great ingredients and handled well. The surprise star of the night was the vegetarian sushi platter - such great care was given to simple and noble ingredients reflected the chef’s love and ingenuity.
