I'm just a GUY did a lot of research before settling on The Lighthouse Atelier to learn the craft of oil painting. So the quality of teaching and the knowledge of the instructors is amazing! I'll give them 6/5 stars in that aspect. But personally I had an experience that leaves a sour taste in my mouth. Before I signed up for the course I chatted with the course instructor and asked tons of stupid question like what's the difference between acrylics and oils and egg tempura on Instagram. But because i do cute art my instagram profile is female. So I learnt a lot from those chats and signed up for the course. But because I enter the atelier as a guy like within 5 mins after lesson if I ask any questions related to art the instructor will just say he's meeting friends or in the zone and wants to paint and to DM him the questions. In my mind if I do DM him he's just gonna ignore me and yes that is what happened. The question I wanted to ask was about another course on the Lighthouse Atelier website. That's fair but when i DO dm the question, I do not get any replies and just get ghosted even though the messages are seen. So the next day I'll ask another question until after a few days my art questions start to pile up and it starts to look like I'm a disgruntled ex - girlfriend spamming tons of questions. So my review is if you're female go to the lighthouse atelier, its fantastic. IF you're a guy I can't find any oil painting course that seems as good so DO GO but just be prepared for prejudiced treatment and you'll be fine. IF i can turn back time I would still learn from them but just know my place and keep my head down and don't ask questions because the course was fantastic. 2/5 rating is just an emotional rating from being stonewalled and google doesn't allow 1/5 rating

While there are many resources online to help improve your drawing or painting, they are typically either behind a very high paywall or don't provide the specific guidance you might need. It is also difficult trying to learn from a video in the first place. I was extremely excited to hear of the opening of The Lighthouse Atelier. Over its 12 week drawing program, I have been incredibly happy with the studio. Dominic and Matthias were great teachers in the drawing course. They provided keen instruction and answered questions in detail. Both teachers also drew on the sketch itself to demonstrate techniques or to show where I could improve. I'd never worked on a drawing in the systematic way that The Lighthouse Atelier teaches, and the process was greatly helped by both Dominic and Matthias. I look forward to attending more classes.

I was recommended The Lighthouse Atelier for a more serious and academic art pedagogy by a friend. As someone with zero knowledge and formal experience training or even working in such a field, I am really extremely thankful for what Matthias & Dominic have made available & possible through their joint endeavor. Their classes span from honing basic fundamental drawing skills to advanced classes like portraiture from life & long figure poses. The opportunities never cease as the founders would also go out and invite renown artists to hold workshops from time to time as well— the place is truly filled with a wealth of resources to help one learn and grow at a comfortable pace and in so many ways. The instructors Matthias & Dominic have been very open in sharing what they themselves have learnt over the years from renown art academies. In addition to critiquing and giving guidance as we work on our pieces, they are also forthcoming in sharing resources that learning artists can refer to outside of class, should one be interested to know even more. I have participated in 2 of their courses and have witnessed how they were very specific & bespoke in their teaching to individuals who can have either zero or many years of artistic experience. The fact that many students return for repeat or more classes is testament to the how inspiring the teachers are, and how much more we students feel we ought to learn from both Matthias & Dominic. I would highly recommend this place to everyone, be it whether you are exploring picking up a new pastime or would like to have a sound academic training when learning art. This place is like no other and remains like its namesake, a lighthouse for artists seeking quality art education in this geographical region where art academies are so few and far between.

The classes are kept small, so that each student gets an individual attention during a lesson. I have attended the drawing class for half a year at this studio. My drawing skill has improved and I do enjoy every class. On top of that ,my confidence towards drawing slowly increase. Teachers (Dominic & Matthias) are friendly , patient and willing to share their knowledge. Beside that, they are very observant towards our drawing and always provide some guidance whenever is needed. Highly recommended to those who are new in drawing.
