Dishes are prepared with authentic Portuguese cooking techniques. The star here is none other than Bacalhau, a staple in the Portugal culture. TUGA offers eight methods to present the Portuguese signature; ask the waiter how each is made if you are unsure. We've decided on Polvo A Lagareiro, which turned out super delicious. The salted cod was very fresh and was paired with freshly baked potatoes - a simple, hearty, and satisfying plate. Ordered garlic tiger shrimp, mussels, octopus salad and Portuguese Duck Rice to go along. The overall taste is very on point, not particularly salty, and the seafood is definitely the highlight. Per pax is about $50, excluding wine. The restaurant also features a retail space selling Portuguese products, such as spices, soaps, etc.

Stumbled upon this nice joint by accident as Jumbo had no table for us. Having no prior experience with Portuguese food, we were expecting cuisine along the lines of a Spanish feast. Surprisingly, it was much tastier and classy In the way the food was executed. We ordered garlic tiger prawns, wonderfully savoury and fried to perfection in oil. Clams were excellent and we couldn't stop dipping our bread in it. The seafood rice was heavenly, very similar to local lobster porridge but blended with European harbs and cooking method. There was a weird chicken soup though, with shredded chicken and carrot strips. It kind of looks and tastes like a stew for children, and quite out of place given their repertoire of dishes. Lastly, we would like to compliment their service. Drinks, bread and condiments were served shortly after we were seated. They even got a sommelier to introduce Portuguese wine (which we have absolutely no idea what to choose) for our pairing. Overall, it was really a pleasant surprise to stumble upon this gem. Good work to Team Tuga.

Overall food was good. Nice ambience. Good to bring dates. The Portuguese wine we tried was nice. In terms of food, I like the codfish and mussels!

TUGA, Premier Portuguese Wining & Dining Nestled in the well established Dempsey area (opposite Jumbo) TUGA owned and run by Carlos Couto, who has a similar establishment in Taiwan, this Restaurant has made quite a name for itself with the amazing selections of Wine and the super authentic representation of Portuguese Cuisine! Once again I enjoyed a wonderful Lunch, and the highlight for me was the absolute fantastic Tomato & Onion Soup with poached egg, it’s rough, it’s country style and absolutely flavourful! It was so good I ordered 2 portions for β€œTa Pau” as the locals call it, or easier as Take Away! The selection of classical Appetizers were as always, flavourful, authentic and very satisfying! Garlic Shrimps/Prawns were as authentic as it comes, perfectly cooked! Portuguese Tempura style green beans, never tried before , loved it! Codfish Cakes, another true classic, especially locals could find them a tad salty, as it’s prepared wit salted Cod, Bacalau, but these were perfect! Loved β€˜em! Pardon Peppers, a personal favourite. Roasted and just sprinkled with sea salt, can never get enough of this simple yet tasty dish! The octopus salad, octopus super tender and with its salad truly a great fish to devour! The seafood/tomato rice looked superb (presently not taking much starch, so stayed away from it) but my fellow diners wiped it off the face of the earth, so to speak! ??? The Cod Fish Steak & the fried fish, deserve special mention! Especially loved the Codfish, perfectly cooked to the point! The white wine, Quinta da Laos, was a perfect Chardonnay, and excellent Lunch companion! Superb! Can recommend this place as it is worth across the spectrum! Now off to the weekend diet! ??? PS. The wine selection at this Restaurant is absolutely amazing , a small take away shop offers some of the most popular Portuguese products, impressive canned Sardines etc, Olives, Olive Oils and excellent Rice selection! We had a really nice time at Tuga. Having loved our time in Portugal, we relished the opportunity to have a taste of Portugal in Singapore. The hearty and tasty stews, and the crisp codcakes did not disappoint. Sangria was spot on as well. The service staff were brisk and polite, whilst the outdoor dining vibes were casual yet elegant. Prices were a bit on the high side but not unreasonable given the portion size and quality. Obrigado, Tuga!

I haven’t had Portuguese food before so we thought to try this out. The dining area is very interesting, they combine the cellar/storage space with dining tables, it almost feels like you’re in wine factory or cellar. Back to the dishes, we had three hardy dishes, the food portion is moderate but are super filling. I’d like to give a big shout out to Victor who gave us a comprehensive introduction to Portuguese food, forgive our ignorance! He was clearly passionate about the food and wine which is infectious ;)

We were left a tad disappointed after visiting what used to be one of our favourite restaurants at Dempsey Hill. TUGA has been our go-to dining room for Portuguese cuisine. Naturally, the wine experience remains first-rate with the variety and cellar ambience. The overall food quality and service standards pales in comparison to our previous visits, and staff at such an establishment should really articulate wine recommendations better. We do understand that there are slow days, but diners don't pay B prices just because they get the B team, so we might just let the new (we assume) crew settle and beef up their knowledge before returning.
