Travelled all the way to 客家佬擂茶 at Tanglin Halt Food Center to satisfy my Hakka yong tau foo cravings! We ended up queuing for about 30 minutes, but then and again, good things are worth the wait amirite? ? Even though priced at 90 cents, each piece of hand-made yong tau foo is generously portioned and freshly fried in small batches. Our favourite is the stuffed eggplant, with the soft texture held by the meat/fish paste filling. The filling is also well-seasoned, with a touch of umami from the dried sole powder. Bb's parents also loved the fried beancurd skin- this golden brown crispy goodness stuffed with a copious amount of meat filling yields a satisfying crunch with every bite! Recommend dipping into their chilli sauce for an extra fiery punch.

Everyone has a go-to place to get their Thunder Tea Rice fix, and 客家佬 is our absolute favourite! Even if it means driving some distance to Tanglin Halt from where we stay. Their 雷茶饭 is clean to the palate and certainly, nutritionally healthy. Additional yongtaufoo to complement our rice bowl is a must!

I don't know what was in the rice and vegs, but the mix was extra flavourful! There was a kind of umami i never experienced eating Lei Cha! The tea was relatively lighter on the palate and not as pungent as the one at Yuhua Food Centre. There was a really long queue in the afternoon, but i would say it was well worth the wait! Absolutely delicious! X) 10/10 would buy again!

Best Lei-Cha & Hakka YTF ever…hope new home in Margaret Drive HC will be better staffed to reduce lunch queue for faster turn-around. ??

Lei Cha aka Thunder tea rice was the best I had. The tea broth was rich and thick with some coarseness of 'tea' in it. Some astringency but of a pleasant type. The ingredients are assortment of vegetables, peanuts, preserved radish and surprisingly anchovies. I had never had anchovies in it. It does lend a good flavor. Overall, very balance and a great bowl. There were 5 items of Yong Tau foo available. Here, it is a mixture of pork, fish and anchovy as their filling. Every one was exquisite that I did not use any bean sauce or chili to go with it as the items is delicious by itself. The queue moves slowly and the owners are friendly ladies. They are moving to new address in Dawson 1 Aug and will probably close mid July. Highly recommended!
