Aunty Sharon was my piano teacher for five years, from primary 2 to secondary 1 (thereafter I stopped piano lessons for personal reasons). As a child, I wasn’t a great student, but she was very patient. She had this ability to strike a sweet spot between being strict and being gentle when needed. Aunty Sharon is someone who doesn’t compromise on standards, and I appreciate her pushing me to achieve my potential! I also remember her teaching me to play by ear, and she would guide me in exploring different chords. I think this practice given by Aunty Sharon is the reason why I am now still able to play by ear, even though I have long stopped piano lessons. More than anything, lessons with Aunty Sharon built my character in striving for excellence and preserving in the face of challenges, and she used innovative ways in helping me achieve my goals in my piano journey. :) I’m sure any student who has the privilege of having Aunty Sharon as their teacher will benefit greatly!

Our daughter started lessons with Bright Notes, since she was about 3 years old. Classes are small, with a maximum of three children with one lead teacher and one assistant. The teachers carefully planned each lesson to provide her with a strong foundation in English and Mathematics through Montessori activities. At the Pre school level, there was early exposure to phonics, vocabulary building and writing skills from a young age. She had very good training in Math too. She did challenging IQ puzzles, mental math exercises, and primary school level Math in Kindergarten. Her teachers often praise her for being very responsible and good attitude towards learning. She has obtained good results in a top primary school in Bukit Timah area. In Primary 1 and 2 , our daughter was awarded High Achiever Award for the entire Year. After the Primary 3 qualifying Gifted exam assessments, she was accepted to the Gifted program. This is in no doubt due to the strong foundation that was built in the classes.

My 11 year old son had been taking Suzuki Piano Lessons in the US from a very well known Music School's Community Program. When we moved to SG, we had hoped to continue with his Suzuki learning and came across the Bright Notes program and teacher Sharon. Sharon has been able to meet the high energy of my son and work with him to create expression and meaning to the piece. She uses different tools for hand position and posture and helps him visualize the flow and meaning of the music by relating the piece to everyday feelings and activities. She has created a great repetoire of work for my son to play using pieces from his Suzuki book, scales, pieces with repetition and finger exercises, and a popular piece to play. She has also incorporated Music Theory into the instruction. My son really enjoys playing his piano and going to his lessons. Teacher Sharon provides constructive feedback for him and challenges him to work towards his goals personally and for performance.

My child started her first piano lesson with Teacher Sharon and within a very short time, was able to start preparing for piano exams. Teacher Sharon is very driven, dedicated and has high expectations of her students. Parents need to be prepared to be involved to work with Teacher Sharon to get the best results.

My 15 yo son changed to Sharon as his piano teacher when he moved to secondary school and she was able to work around his demanding school schedule. Sharon was able to leverage on my son’s motivation to succeed rather than to grind through regular lessons or accumulate long hours of practice. Unlike exams under previous teachers, I notice that my son was less stressed and can better manage his time and other commitments. Under Sharon, he has obtained Merit for Grade 8 piano practical.

Teacher Sharon coached my daughter in piano from primary 2 through to lower secondary. What sets teacher Sharon apart from other music teachers I know is her focus on the learning process, not just the outcomes or exam results. She caters to the unique needs of individual students to work on their weaknesses and build on their strengths. Teacher Sharon imbued in my daughter the values of perseverance , resilience, self discipline and accountability in the face of challenges. Teacher Sharon takes every teachable moment during lessons to inculcate the necessary values and attitudes, apart from music skills. I credit teacher Sharon for contributing to my daughter's character development through music training.

My daughter has been learning how to play the piano from teacher Sharon for over a year and beyond learning the fundamentals, she has developed a love for the piano and always looks forward to her lessons. As a parent, this is an absolute joy to observe and I've noticed very consistent improvement with each lesson. Teacher Sharon is patient, nurturing and sets high standards for her students.
