Gu Ma Jia Private Kitchen

Gu Ma Jia kitchen is simple and unpretentious. What you see is what you get Sometime simplicity is all you need. Don’t need the pompous and filtered photos which looks good but end results is disappointing. It was a celebration for a colleague returning for a short stint at Korea. There were 5 of us hence five dishes. Service and waiting time were generally ok. As this was a treat by the boss, I didn’t know the actual price. However I have glance at the menu and the prices are reasonable. Certain dish only come in standard size whilst other have different sizes. Make sure you check when ordering. You can ask them to help you estimate the dish size based on your group size. My favourite dish was the Asam fish filet. They packed a punch in terms of sour and spiciness. On that day they ran out of the whole fish hence the filet. If you crave for home taste cooked food, I would recommend this kitchen.

Big portion, im soooo amaze, very quick serving with great food

The food is all very delicious. Went there to get a whole fish, which I looked forward to but too bad, they are out of all the whole fish and crabs. So we went ahead to order the rest and its all delicious. Worth the price. The place was very quiet at 7pm, as if I booked the whole place for myself. Service was great. Just too bad I can't get my whole fish. Will definitely come back for more, hopefully there's a whole fish available next.

Don't let it's humble shopfront fool you. The food is nothing less than legendary. My elder brother stays nearby for years and I have passed this store countless times. Strangely on the eve of his relocation, he suggested to dine here and he has never been here before. It was a last minute reservation (made 30mins before we arrive) and it looks a little empty for a saturday night. Honestly I didnt harbour much expectations and ordered mainly the signature items which are less likely to go wrong. The dishes were promptly served and oh boy.. i was so wrong. The chicken soup is flavourful and though most of us didnt like chinese parsley and there was abundance in it, we slurped our bowls empty in no time (skipping the parsley of course) and found ourselves wanting more! The assam fish we've had before were mostly a tad too sour and this was amazingly balanced, the fish was cooked just right. Despite swearing to go on a diet, i had to have half a portion of rice to go with the sauce or I will sleep with regrets. The final dish that came which sealed the deal was the signature prawn noodle. Gu ma jia is located just steps away from a famous prawn noodle available in single portions at a starting price of $5 while for this, the only size comes in a huge claypot at $30 but I will gladly choose this in a heartbeat. The broth is rich and yummy of course but what's shocking is there is wokhey. Show of hands, who had prawn noodles that had wokhey? The other dishes that I didnt mention does not mean it wasnt crazy good. I just didnt wanna give any more spoilers. Go explore places that may not seem instaworthy, for a change, and they might surprise you with a dinner that you will remember for life.

Friendly and attentive staff. Nice cosy environment. Food is good and delicious. We especially love the assam curry fish head, quite spicy yet taste good. Do try their dessert as well. Overall worth coming again for dinner.
