★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Hoong's wanton mee is ketchup based, and that's as much as it shares with popular wanton noodle places like Fei Fei or the Pontian Noodle franchises.
What makes Hoong's so special is that this is the wanton mee that I think many grew up eating. For me at least, this is comfort food. It won't win any awards or official accolades, but it makes me feel good.
The dish has a ketchup-based sauce that thickly coats a mound of starchy noodles that really hits the spot. The char siew, wantons and the vegetables that accompany the noodles aren't fantastic and can probably be even be described as boring. But as a whole, this wanton mee just really brings you a feeling of contentment. A satisfying plate of nostalgia.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Discovered this old school stall that sells wanton noodle in a coffeeshop that is located under the HDB flats.
The first sign that shows that it has been around for some time is definitely the very retro looking white signage. The noodles come in 3 sizes; SGD$3,3.50 and 4. The noodle here is ketchup base and the noodle was a little too starchy. Charsiew and the wanton was alright but nothing fancy. Surprisingly, I enjoyed this plate of noodle. The taste was comforting somehow.
