★ ★ ★ ★ ★ On someone’s recommendation, we decided to try the prawn and pork noodles. The pork was nicely cooked till almost fall off the bone, while the noodles were rather al dente. The prawns and the broth were okay, though not the best we have tasted.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I have tried this stall a few times and thought the quality was OK until today when they used what tasted like frozen prawns for the prawn noodles. Anyway, I am not a big fan of their practice of using disposable chopsticks and spoons even for dine-in.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Walked into ABC Food Centre looking for this well-featured food stall, discovered a bowl run-of-mill prawn noodles and how inaccurate online food reviews can be. There is nothing much to speak of, both in terms of good and bad. Couldn’t decide between assam laksa and prawn noodles, and chose the latter based on a few prominently featured reviews. It was really ordinary, the soup wasn’t oozing with rich taste of prawn, which really is the essence of prawn noodles. Prawns are fresh, price are acceptable. Perhaps my bar are set higher for them, but they are a victim of the debatable marketing that placed them on a pedestal which they would struggle to met the expectations that comes with it.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Had the Assam laksa and it was very disappointing. Taste wasn’t great and hardly any ingredients (just noodles and a bit of chopped up lettuce and cucumber). Was surprised as I have seen it listed in a number of to try food lists

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Ordered the pork ribs prawn noodles. Didn’t have much prawn soup taste. Portion was good for the $4 portion and the pork ribs was soft and tender. Prawns are disappointing as it look like frozen prawns. Their watery chilli has no impact and is as good as nothing. The overall experience was not satisfying as you need to use disposable chop sticks and plastic spoon even you dine on the spot. There was no saucer for you to put your chilli and soy sauce. I am sad that I can’t dip the pork ribs on the soy sauce with chilli. Any extra condiment you need will be added direct into your bowl.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Run by Penang-born Jason Khaw and his wife Linda, the stall serves typical Penang favourites like Hokkien Prawn Mee Char Koay Teow, Assam Laksa and pork Rib Noodle.
I had the Hokkien Mee and for $4.00, it was a generous portion with 3 large prawns and 3 pork ribs. The prawns were firm and the ribs just melt in your mouth. Taste was authentic although I think the gravy at Copthorne is better.
Jason was formerly a Chef at the British High Commission before striking out on his own.
