Kabuke - 200A Telok Ayer St

Came for dinner in this cosy restaurant… must say that the food is good… price point is on the higher side… guess it is never cheap to have Japanese meals in such establishment… may need a special occasion to come back here… not for regular dinners - at least not for me ?

Used to frequent this place a lot more often pre-Covid because we loved the vibe, food and it was reasonably priced, a rare gem. Was surprised to find that the prices has changed to be a lot pricier. Other than the wagyu bowl, the other food portions were miserably small for the price. The somen portion looked more like an appetizer. The tori kawa was tasteless and bland, a total disappointment for such a fail-proof snack. The standard of the wagyu bowl was alright but pricier than other wagyu restaurants. The sake we wanted was sold out. Quite a disappointment, compared ro what it used to be.

Visited their sister brand Tanoke (7 Purvis Street) months ago and really liked it, and that’s why I also want to give Kabuke a try and I think we’ve got a winner here. Ordered ‘Kabuke Pleasure Bowl’ and it was packed with umami, so was the ‘Kimochi Kimochi Somen’, fresh, full of flavours, I’d totally recommend it. This place is a great choice to have some quality sashimi bowls and noodles.

Brought the husband here for his birthday celebration and we loved it here! Very affordable sake and great food here! Will definitely be back! Staff here was very friendly and professional, especially Jodie! See you all again soon!

One of the best places to goto for delicious Japanese Wagyu bowls. The beef will blow your senses away. If you’re willing to pay, go for the Japanese Wagyu special bowl with Sea Urchin and/or Foie Gras. You won’t regret it. This place don’t have small portions for Junmai Daiginjo though.

Hidden gem! It’s tucked away on the second floor. Great food with legit sake pairing. The staff knows their sake well, you can sit at the bar counter for a friendly chat.

The highlight of my birthday week was this meal. Kabuke was one of the best Japanese restaurants I’ve been to. Every item we ordered was perfect. The Kabuke Bara Chirashi Don was amazing. The rice was so fluffy and the seafood in it were really fresh, especially the Uni. The Uni Ikura Somen was my favourite. The truffle shoyu was so fragrant and matched with the somen perfectly. They were also super generous with the ikura. Kabuke Wagyu Bowl was really good as well. The beef was tender and juicy. Garlic chips complemented the dish Camembert Potato Mochi was so soft and fragrant, kind of like the freshly fried donut. Very small portion tho. Use Cheese Tart Brûlée was meh. Tart shell was super hard and the sugar layer for the brûlée was too thick. Everything was crunchy and very sweet. Can’t really taste the cheese with the sugar layer being so sweet. Could’ve been better. Lastly, the item we came here for: Sake. Many of my friends should know that I LOVE sake. So I’ll always look for places that sells sake. We had the Ugo no Tsuki Junmai Daiginjo. Super fragrant and towards the sweeter side. I loved it. Anyways, in conclusion, Kabuke is a MUST VISIT for Japanese food lovers. So blessed for this meal. Had a great dinner at Kabuke with 2 friends. It is an enjoyable evening. A small cost place located on 2F - not the easiest to find as they only have a rather simple sign on top of the doorway on 1F. Decent food (would recommend the unagi tempura) with great sake selection. The staffs are friendly & fairly knowledgeable with the sake. 1 ⭐️ short as I find the food to be rather pricey. Do check out this place for its sake ?
