Been meaning to check out kyoten for awhile now! Definitely an interesting vibe going on, more local - don’t expect the usual Japanese sushi-ya ambience. Chefs were conversing loudly and the layout/customer base highlights that it is a family friendly restaurant. Unfortunately, I believe atmosphere plays a big part in the omakase experience. That’s not to say that Kyoten doesn’t have it’s own charm! Fish seemed to be sliced ahead of service unlike the other places that only prepare upon ordering. Perhaps I went with high expectations or that I did not anticipate the atmosphere which might have affected my experience - sushi was decent, presentation was good.

Food is good but not mind blowing. Slightly on pricy side. There are better japanese out there at similar pricing. Service was attentive.

Been here a few times over the years. Small and intimate. Typical Japanese restaurant ambience. But this one is not ostentatious. The food is fresh and the service is excellent. There is a huge public carpark just opposite the restaurant which is located in the old Tiong Bahru area where there are still art deco buildings like those in Miami. A place to walk back in time.

Fantastic dinner at Kyoten in the historic Tiong Bahru neighborhood. Exquisite sashimi platter, delicate grilled unagi, and delectable A5 Wagyu sando that melts in your mouth. Nice selection of sake, but the focus is on the food. And the food is fantastic. Impeccable service, and serene decor.

Always a good time at Kyoten. Always sit at the counter. Always fresh and delicious. The uni handroll is a uni lover's wet dream come through.

Fresh, generous portions, served by a friendly bunch. Could not see the rice of the sushi for nearly every piece as it was so generously wrapped with seafood. In fact, they reminded me of special "sushi burgers" that some chefs would make for customers. Extremely fresh ingredients. Get the Kyoten omakase and you'll also get an uni sushi "sub". I could barely fit the amount of uni into my mouth.. Though I regret not savouring it and eating it slowly. The sushi rice was perfectly seasoned and warm. Heavier on the wasabi than usual but I like it this way. Chef Alex and his team are friendly and service was good. My drinks were refilled well before they were out and they made sure food was served immediately after they are prepared. The setting was casual, not fine dining.. Price is lower than Japanese fine dining and the money goes to make the food good.
