$9 for half soy sauce chicken? I’m sold. Not only is it cheap, the taste is 100%. Meat was decent, but what elevated the experience was the beautifully seasoned skin. The chicken paired excellently with a dash of chilli sauce and rice.

Friendly old ladies manning is store. Beansprouts added which is to my pleasant surprise. These are for the 2 stars. Now... For the soy sauce chichen, meat tasted like it been reheated few times. Hardly any flavour. Rice was hard. Soy sauce added to rice without my asking... At $5, it is not expensive considering drumstick but quality wise, hardly stand up to competitors in this same hawker.

Ma Li Ya Virgin Chicken is one of the better braised soya sauce chicken rice stall to choose, besides the ever super-long snaking queues @Hawker Chan in this Chinatown Complex. Succulent braised soya sauce chicken meat and whole chicken at only $14.00 (medium). Whole chicken available in 3 sizes:- - small $12 - medium $14 - large $16 Must Opt for their signature braised tofu (beancurd) at $1.50 per piece, cooked in their special "secret recipe" savoury dark sauce. Braised Tofu (beancurd) is both tenderly soft and jelly like.. melts in your mouth ! Address: 335 Smith St, #02-189 Chinatown Complex ps: old Aunty tends to look "intimating" but speaks to her in Cantonese, you will get extra sauce and a smile ?

1st time trying after I heard so many good reviews about it. It definitely tastes better than the Michelin star one (it was good but after attaining Michelin star standard drop). I reached at almost dinner time to buy. And had it for dinner but it tastes really good. At $14 for half a chicken, portion is huge. Chicken is soft and tender. I like her chilli. Not too spicy for me with a sourish taste which pairs well with the rice.

Came here at 1.30pm on a Sunday and guess what, I got the last plate of the soya sauce chicken rice with braised beancurd. Very thankful to the stall ladies for keeping the drumstick as the last serving for the day. I have never tried the food here until after I saw the review by Mark Wiens. I must say the rice is great. Every grain is fragrant like what is stated on the sign there. But I prefer less of sauce on the rice which I will specify the next time I eat here. The chicken is soft but somehow not as fragrant as I thought it would be. The beancurd though soft, is not the tau kwa type that they made it to be so soft. Overall not bad.

Thoroughly enjoyed my $14 meal for 2. Chicken tender and carried all that wonderful flavors of its salty sweet braising liquid. One can easily mop up at least 2 bowls of rice with this sauce on its own. Maria's other famed tofu had been left marinating in a richer soya concoction. A lovely savory tofu pudding of sorts. Chilli sauce was forgettable. Thankfully not a necessary pairing with Maria's soya chicken.

Tasty tender soya sauce chicken. The braised sauce marinade is tasty and full of flavour. The chili sauce gives a nice tang to the dish. Its served over chicken rice rice. The $4 includes lots of bean sprouts. The tofu is soft and braised in the same sauce as the chicken. Good stuff.
