Do you know this place?? Never expected basement floor hit dead end of corridor in mid town bldg. we met Japan imported Kanpachi, Ishi Garey, Madai extremely fresh edge cut sashimi and genuine fresh caught place. Sake >30 decent selection from 180ml to 720ml lovely matching with both raw to grill to fried to vinegar marinated one. Wagyu tartar spicy is perfect fit for whisky and soda or beer nama. Omg you cannot miss this place. Easy access on orchard and mrt/bus.

Japanese Curry rice is made with PORK LIVER, with no other meats. The taste of soy sauce is also overpowering, and it explains the dark brown color of the curry. This video was taken right after the food was served. As shown in the video, it contains mainly broccoli and cauliflower with traces of pork liver. I left the place 3 mins after the food was served. I won’t be coming back

I’ve come here quite a number of times over the years, and food has been consistently awesome (my favorite is their fried chicken with tartar sauce). Drinks are good value, and they have Kanpai sets which get’s you drinks + snacks to kick things off. Bossman is a great guy, and makes a point to know his regulars by name. They also recently expanded their menu to have sushi, which was pretty good too.

Honestly would not have expected this Japanese izakaya shop to be hidden at the basement of Midtown Orchard all these while. To have walked past the building so many times, and not know that there's this hidden gem at the basement, is just a slight pity. That said, now that I've found them, will definitely recommend a visit to those that have not been before. That said, to level-set expectations, they're not well dolled up like Public Izakaya or any other better known Izakayas in Singapore. They're right across the road from 313 Somerset, en route to Centrepoint when you walk from Heeren. When it feels like you're walking into the unknown basement, you're probably on the right track. We were here for lunch, and quite obviously, they'd be relatively emptier vs the night crowd. That said, we still felt like home the moment we set foot into the shop. Throughout the entire dining experience, it felt as if we were at a home kitchen, with a lovely couple from Japan, working the in and outs of the entire operation. Got ourselves their assorted sashimi, the chicken karaage, the tamago, amongst other dishes. Just follow their recommendations and you'll not go wrong. Extremely pleasant experience!

A few things you must know before you come. This is an authentic izakaya. That is why the owner says you order drinks first before food. This also has the izakaya in a corner of a old Japanese building in Tokyo vibe. If you make a reservation, minimum spend is $80 per head. Now that you know all this, then I will comment on the food. The sake selection is good. What they recommended to be drunk warm, really tasted worlds apart when it was heated to 55c. The chicken liver was good. So was the fried chicken. And the sashimi. And the wagyu. The beef tongue. The oyster with uni and ikura..... The grilled mackerel (barely even heated up) and the vinegared unagi and char siew was ok. But the atmosphere to catch up and chat over drinks? That's what you come here for.

The staff were friendly and the soju they recommended was very good. The food is all very good. The liquor they sell is very affordable and there is a good variety, so I would recommend buying liquor. We also love the take away hand rolled sushi set.

Seemingly simple food done so well! (total dmg was $102 for 2 people, for dishes shown here + 3 bottles of Tiger beer). This place really makes unassumingly looking food taste so so good. My favorite is the omelet done perfectly (moist and juicy on the inside) and the seaweed side dish which is served hot, which I appreciate. The fried chicken with grated radish and ponzu took me by surprise, I didn't expect it to pair well initially.
