★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I posted this photo not because they’re famous or to make them famous, or their braised duck is good. I posted this photo to warn others you may encounter a bad experience like me.
This afternoon I was at Alexandra Village hawker centre trying to buy half a braised duck for dinner as wife and daughter wanted it with rice. Chanced upon this stall which looked not bad and with so many ducks hanging neatly for sale.
Started queuing with only a man in front of me, with some other follow suit. When it was my turn, the lady (seems like husband and wife stall) began telling the man behind me to come at 1pm (it was 12:30pm then) and only then would they start selling. I was puzzled. Firstly why she didn’t tell me first as I was in front of the queue, and secondly there was already a man in front buying!
I began to ask the lady the reason as all the food was already nicely laid, preparing to sell, and secondly the opening hours were stated very clearly on the sign board, 11:30am to 4pm. She did not give any reason for doing so. Just said ‘not selling now. Come at 1pm!’ I then told her that the ducks were already laid out nicely and preparing for sale and if I could just order 1/2 a duck chopped for take away. She said if not chopped then possible. Chopped then no, again without any valid reasons whatsoever. This time I was dumbfounded and walked away immediately, vowed never to visit it again, no matter how delicious or tasty the ducks would be.
With such attitude and practice by the stall owners, I believe this stall will not thrive. Still got the cheek to hang so many photos of the owner taken with ministers and MPs. What does that signify? I can understand for some reasons like lunch time, owner needs to take a break, or even they need to get ready those food that were not prepared fully. Opening a stall with hours clearly stated on the signboard and then suddenly stopped selling without giving any valid reasons is something I cannot accept. Will give a ‘no star’ if there is such an option. Lousy attitude as if I was transparent from the start and talking to the man behind first is what really puzzled me as well. Go queue if you like, and good luck!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Taste is average to me. The duck kidney is cooked to tenderness and good taste. The soy sauce on rice was overly gamey with stronger than usual duck smell. Meat wise is average to me. Owner is normal and almost rude. Don’t think I’ll be back again. There is a lot more better duck rice stalls out there. I love that one next to mustafa ‘south buona vista boneless braised duck’.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Delicious duck, but their braised pork, pig ears and snout also very good. Meats are tender and tasty.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Long queue even at 1pm on Sunday. Braised sauce is very good and tasty. Duck is average but the pork is rather dry. Pork would have been better with some fat. The stall does seem to have its fan based with many ordering to take home.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Very average and ordinary duck rice, not sure what the long queue and wait is for. The worst thing is we brought our own glass containers to takeaway but they refused to use them and insisted on packing in styrofoam boxes, which cannot be recycled. Would hesitate to buy from this stall again, especially if it is for takeaway, and avoid being complicit with their environmentally unfriendly practices.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Cold, dry and tough duck. If your house is flooding, order a duck or two. Might be able to soak up the moisture.
Imagine putting chicken breast and boiling it for 3 hours. Then drench it in salty sauce. That's what you will get here. Both texture and taste cannot make it. Excessively salty braise sauce with a bit of sweetness and barely any other flavour.
Undercooked rice that feels like what you might get during hungry ghost months when people leave a bowl of raw rice grain outside in the evening rain which then gets heated up by the sun the next day.
Below average intestines and intestines head. Small portion for $7 add on, even the stall in the centre section of the hawker centre sells a bigger portion of better intestines for only $5.
$11.60 for a duck rice, intestines and intestines head. Get scolded by uncle for not ordering everything at 1 go even though he asked me to go sit down when I tried to order at 11.45am. Suddenly waved me back 20 minutes later, I told him my order and got chided to order everything at 1 shot.
Luckily I only had to wait 20 minutes. Don't bother with this place. Food damn salty, barely any braise taste. Duck damn dry, almost choked on it. Cannot make it.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Queued 1/2 hour for this plate of braised roast duck. Duck was dry and tough. Added a side of intestines to go with this which helped improve the dish but $7 was alot more than i would pay for the time and product received.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The duck tasted very normal and was quite dry. Totally not worth the long wait and expensive price. The uncle took his time to decorate the plate thus holding up the queue.
On the other hand, the intestines were perfectly braised until they were soft and flavourful. I will return for these. The auntie was also quite friendly. Both wore their masks properly ?? E-payment was available too.
