I tore my ACL completely while bouldering and went to see Prof Lo, who was very calm and reassuring through the whole process. He advised me on the various treatment options — surgery vs physio — and walked me through the pros and cons of both. We decided on surgery, and his lovely clinic staff immediately helped to book an operation theatre for the soonest possible date, which happened to be the next day (5 days post-injury). Prof Lo brought up a few scenarios about how my reconstructed ACL might make my injured knee feel different from my other knee (i.e. that it might feel stiffer than the other one; range of motion might not be as wide; might not feel as stable as the other knee), and gave his recommendations to counter all of these potential outcomes, all of which have proven extremely successful so far (3 months post-op). The operation went smoothly, him and one of his nurses (Michelle) checked on me often and was readily contactable, which helped to make the whole process a lot smoother. Prof Lo didn't prescribe me a brace for my knee as he said it was stable enough post-op to bear weight on, and told me to bear weight as tolerated. I started walking without crutches by the 8th day, going up and down the stairs without issue by the 14th day, and got my full flexion back within 4 weeks. Resumed yoga by the second week, and went back to climbing by the end of the first month. Thanks Prof Lo and team! Couldn't wish for a better set of medical professionals to get me through an ACL tear.
