Old school pastry shop, I like! Assortment of pastries from tau sa piah to fa gao. Bought some grey kueh that looks like a beng kueh. It has salty bean paste inside. Was good! Tasted like the grey ang ku kueh but just bigger haha. Prices were cheap and affordable. The "beng kueh" was $1.50. Auntie and Uncle were friendly too.

As usual I had to control my buying. Loveeee all the piahs - the salty tau sar, the sweet tau sar, the yam paste piah. Love that big sesame covered cookie too.

Since we are at Hong Lim Complex Food Centre, decided to walk down to the ground floor at the adjacent block of flat and visited Poh Guan Cake House. They specialized in traditional Chinese pastry. Got 1 salty, 2 sweet, 2 yam ”豆沙ι₯Όβ€œ - bean paste biscuits. 1 small traditional flaky mooncake and β€œζ²™ηͺηŽ›β€ (Sachima) which is a snack that is like rice crispies coated with malt sugar.

Have been visiting Poh Guan for years to get their moist fragrant salty Tau Sar Piah. The fried shallot flavour is strong enough and pastry skin is flaky. Their Nian Gao is also worth getting during CNY. Not too sweet and texture is just right. Thankful to still get to eat such traditional handmade goodies.

Since 1930, it is almost a century old business. Their speciality is tau sar piah. Normally you will find a choice of sweet or savory. Here, they have a few other variations like black sesame as well as black pepper. Black mung bean pastry was excellent with a chewy texture. A hint of orange peel to its paste. Rarely seen and a must try. The salty tau sar piah was fragrant and not overtly sweet. Highly recommended.
