5 star for the food and 2 star for the service. We ordered at 11:40 and only got our first dish served at 12:20 (a fried vegetable). Seems thereโ€™s only 1-2 staff serving so donโ€™t expect a restaurant level service. Also the food is a bit pricy. But the taste is authentic - oily and heavy taste as it should be. The fried eel and wonton is really good. I would consider to order takeaway if craving Shanghai cuisine next time.

Another hidden jem in the bukit timah area - great variety, quality and service ? Their fried (mala) chicken, sheng jian bao were the highlight of our meal. Will definitely visit again โ˜บ๏ธ

Oily and overpriced food, awful service. Not worth the wait or grief. Update to warn others - my kid had food poisoning and was throwing up the whole day after eating there.

Brought my overseas friend's family from Indonesia, they simply loved the food. i am so glad to host them while they are on holiday here!! When i ate it, i dowan to eat from lousy DING TAI FENG... the xiao long bao is so nice and juicy... thin skins... omg.. the meat with eggs.. melts in ur mouth.. the noodles may look plain, after mixing them together... the taste was unforgettable.. taste like my grandma's noodles... If u are planning to host a group a friends, you can safely host it here.. cos the food quality is still as good after so many years!!!!

A friend recommended this restaurant to us. We went. The outside of the restaurant looked suspicious and not so promising. But actually it turned out quite good. We ordered most of their famous dishes. I would say they were very authentic homemade Shanghaineseโ€™s food. The Shen Jian Bao (pan fried bun) were sold out. It could be their most popular dish. We ordered the Guo Tie (pan fried dumpling) instead. It was so good. The scallion oil noodle was very good too. The scallion oil pan cake was also very good. I forgot to take a photo to show you guys. But it tasted so good. The service staff can only speak mandarin. They are friendly and helpful when they can understand you. Not every dish you want is available. I just feel that it really depends on the timing you walk in and what the chef has on hand. LOL. The restaurant only accepts PayNow and cash. We spend about $30 per person. I will go there again if I visit that area in future.

TL;DR: Superb food, understaffed, if you canโ€™t enjoy strong tasting food (garlic, spicy, sweet, etc.) then give this a miss. This is a hidden little gem in Balmoral Plaza. Legend has it the availability of the menu is solely dependent on the mood of the lady boss. Iโ€™ve come here more than 5 times and I canโ€™t figure out whatโ€™s available or not. Sometimes not sure why they have a menu at all. What they are known for: ๅฐ็ฌผๅŒ…, ็”Ÿ็…Ž, ็บข็ƒง่‚‰. What they do well: literally everything on their menu that is cooked in a wok. Plus, they are consistent with their cooking standards which is quite hard to find nowadays. Their ็บข็ƒง่‚‰ is probably the best you can find in Singapore, and I highly recommend you pair that with a (or a few) bowl of rice. Their vegetables, wok fried with tons of garlic is always good, be it ๅนฒ็…ธๅ››ๅญฃ่ฑ† or ้ฑผ้ฆ™่Œ„ๅญ, every dish on the table is always a perfect balance of fragrant and spicy. Even their็•ช่Œ„็‚’่›‹ would top 95% of your ่œ้ฅญ stalls. Just beware of bringing friends, relatives or anyone whoโ€™s โ€œon a dietโ€, โ€œdoesnโ€™t like too sweet thingsโ€, โ€œtoo oilyโ€. You get the point.
