★ ★ ★ ★ ★ It may not be as opulent as the castles and palaces in other countries, but it is still a must visit place for Singaporeans and visitors. After all it is a national monument. Join the tour for it's always good to have a friendly guide whom you can ask questions.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Very nice garden landscape to stroll in during open house. However it is quite a long way in from the main gates to the Istana. Remember to bring water to hydrate yourself during the walk.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The official residence of Singapore's prime minister (currently Mr Lee Hsien Loong) though they said none of the prime minister has ever lived here.
On the Istana open house day, this place is not opened. There will be a guard in every road to this house and in its perimeter.
The name comes from Malay language, means the 'Splendour of Temasek'. Temasek or sometimes Tumasik - means 'sea town' - is the name of city before became Singapura (or its international name : Singapore).

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Unfortunately this building is not open to public during the Istana open house. It's the building where the cabinet meetings are held. The rest of the Istana grounds are certainly worth visiting. Did not realize such a huge and lovely garden next to Orchard Road.
