The Tree Cafe (The Cathay) - 2 Handy Rd

Yum. Waffles with fried chicken was very good; the generous portion of chicken was crispy and juicy, and waffles were warm and crisp and flavorsome and served with honey and butter. Latte and iced tea were decent. Service was quick and good.

Value for money I must say, average taste (poly/university canteen type of food), place is relatively chill and self service, save money. Feels kind of understaffed though.

My favourite place to study! Students get $2 off on selected food items when they show a valid student card. I would like to applaud two staffs on duty who were very patient when they being mistreated by a lady who seemed to be caught mingling across tables. It is not easy to work in f&b industry so I hope this review makes your day better! (and i hope the horrible lady reflect on her actions bcuz she’s obviously in the wrong ??? pls follow the law and dont expect everyone to be ‘flexible’… heard the whole commotion across the cafe ?)

Firstly I am surprised on the low rating of this place! For the price, I think the offering (food and beverage), the environment and the service is pretty good. If people were expecting 5 star service with the affordable price it would not be fair to rate them low. I had the spaghetti bolognese and I thought it was decent, tasty, filling and the pasta was Al dente! Not super superb but I would definitely come again. Cathay being Cathay, the place wasn’t super crowded. So it’s a good place to sit down and relax; the lady who served me also was quite nice. Recommended for ppl who don’t want a super expensive lunch, fast service and a nice environment to chat.

I am writing this review to help improve customer service and do not mean any harm. My friends and I dined at The Tree Cafe at The Cathay last Saturday on the 7th of May 2022. When we first walked in, a waiter told us that the waiting would be approximately 30 to 60mins. We said okay we will still dine anyways. The store was about 85% full so we understood. Our food came about 45mins later and tasted bad. All of our pastas did had no taste/salt and was bland. My friend ordered the sous vide duck confit pasta and was not cooked properly. We asked for a refund for her meal. The cashier showed no emotion and any sign of being apologetic. My friends and I did not have a good dining experience.

Very surprised that such a cafe existed- especially with the low prices, great deals, quality meals and cozy ambience! For any main, you have an option to upgrade it with a mushroom soup and ice lemon tea for $2.50, but students get $2 off any main. So for any students, you’re effectively only paying $0.50 to get a soup and drink. I got the sesame chicken bowl and was satisfied with it. Won’t say it was the BEST thing on earth but it was definitely good and higher quality than I expected. The chicken was crispy on the outside, but not dry or hard in the inside. The rice was fragrant and the meal was filling. The ambience was also nice, with the fairy lights, different types of seating and chill Korean music playing in the background. Not crowded at all either. They also allow you to study/work there, because I saw a customer next to me watching a Kdrama on her ipad and on the other side, someone typing on her laptop! In my opinion this place is a gem, really like it and would definitely go back to try other mains as well as the desserts.

It’s really damn good food, good ambiance, good service! I usually don’t visit small cafes often due to over priced food, small portions etc. however! Dishes are very value for money here! With a student discount of $2 (on weekdays only I think) my total bill was $10, inclusive of a rice bowl, drink and soup! I’m so impressed by the standard,, definitely coming back!! Only downside is it’s a small cafe afterall and food can’t be produced fast, but they’re trying their best ☺️

The food and drinks are fine, and they are at affordable rate too. Self ordering at counter is fine with me even returning plates and glass after dine. Minus 1 star as one of the cashier attitude need real improvement, no response or acknowledgement after hearing the order from customer, it is a bit rude i think. Even after e payment done and shown also no response, just pass the receipt. After serving, just sat down in the table infront and browse phone.
