A rather old library. Nostalgic. Popular with many elderly citizens.

One of the oldest remainding public library of singapore since 1974. Give readers & book lovers a cosy place to read & discovery.

Almost half century old building but this is the best library I ever love to visit, no fancy layout, no modern sitting arrangement, but is the best because we just need a decent library like this.

Not as spacious or well laid out to the level of some other public libraries, but there is lots of comfy seating for reading and stand-alone desks available on Levels 2 and 3 if you need a bit more space for books, laptop etc. Unfortunately none of the desks I saw were equipped with any power sockets nearby. There is a 2 hour limit for visitors, organised via the various sticker colours designated on different days (I quite like this idea, especially at weekends to keep turnover of facilities moving along fairly). The WiFi requires visitors to download the NLB SGX App. to be able to use, which is a shame if you only want brief access to research certain materials.

Toa Payoh national library is located about 6 mins walk from the mrt station. It is a nice place for the residents nearby to rest, relax and enjoy the free aircon while browsing magazines, newspapers or whatever on the comfortable sofa seats.

It was my first time going to the Toa Payoh Library and when I was on my way to the library I was thinking that I might have to ask a few people where the destination was but the library had a whole section for itself and it was not small at all so it was very easy to notice it even if you didn’t have plans to go to the library. I really enjoyed it because there are tons of computers for people to use and they have a fair amount of library catalogs which is very helpful. One the first floor (once you walk in, towards the right) you’ll see a section to read newspapers in. On the second floor most of the stuff you see first are a lot of computers on tables, books about finance, art, cooking, Malay, Mandarin Chinese and business. But once you walk a bit farther there’s this section where there are about 6-ish shelves of Fiction. The nice thing about that area is that right next to the Fiction shelves was a large table with 6 seats (a bit separate because of Covid-19) and at the time that I went there was absolutely nobody so it was very relaxing not to have a distraction and just read. I think that the Toa Payoh Library is a really good place to read AND study/use your computer. Because there are multiple seats with a table so you can use your computer. There is also that tablet in the corner on level 2 for reading but I think you can also use your computer if you wanted to. Overall this library is a nice place to read, study, use your computer, and do your homework for school.
