Tomo Izakaya (Clarke Quay) - 3A River Valley Rd

I chose this place on Sunday night because I remember this place is good with Japanese food in an Izakaya atmosphere. Maybe it is Covid, so they do not have enough staff. I only see two staff running the place. The receptionist said no outdoor seating and gave me a seat close to the kitchen, where I kept hearing the kitchen staff complain. The picture showed my Onigiri with seaweed dropped on the table when being served. I am disappointed at the Onigiri. The presentation is horrible, and the taste is not great, either. I ordered five dishes, but only two were served as shown in the picture. After 40 minutes of waiting order, which you must pay first, I asked the staff to check how long it would take. I heard they said the kitchen did not receive the order, so they were doing it now. The staff did not come back to inform me of anything. So I had to ask again, and the team finally admitted the system error without telling me when I can have my paid food. . I still needed to ask her how long it would take, which she never answered. Eventually, I cancelled one dish, which also took the staff a long time to manage. The whole episode renders this place one atar.

Sashimi is nice, okonomiyaki is good but a bit oily, the avocado dragon sushi roll is ok, skewer is just really average and the yakisoba is very salty. All in all, it's very pricey and food is not really worth it's price. The ambience is good but the service is very messy.

Great food and service. I had a great time. The only negative thing is you have to order via QR code. For example, I ordered my food but wanted an additional drink; I had to use the QR Code a bit annoying

Came in here for some drinks and chill. The drinks were great (4.5 stars), ambience was amazing and the japanese concept was rather authentic (5 stars) the price is reasonable given the prime location (3.5 stars). The waiters were friendly and service was prompt, waited about 4-5 minutes for our drinks (4.5 stars for the service).

The waiter’s standard (esp politeness)keep dropping every time visiting, I went bi-monthly. Pls provide more training to your staff about omotenashi, make your restaurant proud, not just for the sick of delivering food from the kitchen to table. Food standard is stable though.

Tomo never lets us down. It has a varied menu of dishes, which are all consistently excellent. The sashimi is fresh and delicious and cut in very generous chunks. Nice ambience by the river too.

Ambience of the place was great. Service was a little tad on a Friday night, food was served rather slowly, but guess it makes a place perfect for catching up with your friends. Food itself was not too shabby, except the order that food was served was a little odd. We had Gyoza > Garlic Fried Rice > Steak > Sashimi Salad > Chicken meatball skewer Gyoza was crispy at the bottom, nice and soft on the top. Garlic fried rice perfectly matched the steak but was unfortunately served way ahead of the steak. Beef was done perfectly except the cut of the Australian beef wasn’t really worth the price tag. Sashimi salad was fresh and refreshing, the dressing had a wasabi kick in it. Not a fan of the chicken meat ball skewer. Overall a rather nice place to chill in.

Enjoyed seating by the riverside. Good view. Came with some friends here during 1st week of covid relaxed measures where dining is able to allow up to 10pax. Servers are seen pretty overwhelmed but could tell they are trying their best to deliver. Orders took some time to come but within reasonable waiting duration. What I love best is the garlic rice. Please make reservations to secure a seat either indoors or outdoors.
