Tong Fong Fatt Hainanese Chicken Rice - 7 Maxwell Rd

Heard of this legendary chicken rice before so been there to try it. Taste is so so, I think you can get better at other places. One thing is for sure: you can get better service elsewhere. I mean, I understand if the store is super busy and people talked in clipped sentences but that's no reason to be rude to the customers, how much time can the staff really save? And the prices, what kind of place charge $4.50 for a portion in the person in front and then change $5.50 for the same amount of food on the plate? Would you term it as fraud or unethical business?

Chicken Rice available at $2.50/$3.50. I topped up $2 for extra meat and the total came up to $5.50 which is very reasonable for the portion. Good flavour in the chicken sauce, chicken was also tender. Chilli was not too spicy, so chilli eaters may find it lacks a punch but I think it was perfect for me. Overall the combination of dark sauce, chilli and ginger over the rice was very good! Would recommend this over Tian Tian Chicken Rice to avoid the snaking queues.

The chicken tasted good, very authentic flavour but why a 1-star review. Does the photo shows half a chicken? Basically, the guy chopping the chicken, mix and match different parts of left over chicken to complete my order. What feel like an order of half-chicken, looks like just like slightly over a quarter of a chicken. Return to eat? Lol ?

While the chicken rice tastes decent, portion size is incredibly small at this outlet and attitude by the staff is bad. Suggest to take your spend elsewhere, there is a Amoy Roasted Store just a few rows down - give them a try.

Big fan of this chicken rice stall (I usually go to the bugis village branch) but this stall is lacking the friendly staff. I asked for $4.50 instead of the normal $3.50 and was disappointed with the portion size, which felt lacking. the chicken meat is not as tender as sweet

I was afraid to come here because of the reviews but the owners running the stall were really nice to us. Enjoyed the chicken rice very much!! Interesting that they told my husband that there are many that go there and complain price increase 1 dollar when chicken cost has increased ridiculous. I wonder if that’s what is triggering the negative reviews. The chicken here is kampong. He said chicken cost $11 for 1kg.

I'm typically able to establish a good rapport with most hawkers. Many of them appreciate the occasional chat with customers. However the staff at this particular branch of Tong Fong Fatt is incredibly rude and offensive. There are a couple of other branches in the vicinity. Please visit those instead. First, when I requested not to be given chicken breast, he yelled at me and insisted I don't get a choice. Then, when I informed him that one of their QR codes for payment did not work, he brushed me off by saying that he's new and had no idea how it worked. Lastly, take a look at the image for what I got. This is exactly what I was served. I had not touched the food. 4-5 measly pieces of chicken breast. I felt miserable even before I started my meal. Head somewhere else!
