★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Tong Siew fried rice at Pek Kio market.
Doesn't get more old school than this and arguably best 'simple' fried rice in Singapore.
$3 buys you a delicious wok-hei-ful fried rice skillfully fried with egg, shredded chicken and sliced fish cake. It is topped with deep fred mini sliver fish - a perfect condiment!!!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Very worthwhile for $3 for fried rice & prawn with egg each, taste like your basic home cooking.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The elderly was friendly. Help to bring the food over. Order the fried rice and I love it immediately. Have a home feeling. Pls do not expect portion to be big for the price.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ It’s probably the cheapest hor fun you can find anywhere. But you do get what you pay for. Don’t expect premium ingredients. I could detect a hint of wok hei but not that strong. Still, there’s nothing to complain about for that price. Do support the old couple. Expect to wait a while as it’s a popular stall.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Excellent old school fried rice by a old uncle and auntie at equally old school pek kio market. They sell 炒飯 which is fried rice at $3, 炒河粉 which is fried hor fun at $3, and 蝦蛋 which is prawn egg at $4. I have tried all 3 and you can't go wrong with any of them. I would like to recommend getting a prawn egg to go along with the fried rice, sure it's $7 but it's super delicious to have them together! Come and try and feel warm in your heart knowing that you are support good hawkers! 1 star off only because the uncle is not so friendly, but the auntie is v friendly. Be prepared to wait for your food at peak hours! If you liked this post please hit like so that more people will see it.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ At $3, I guess being affordable is the main draw. Portions are a bit smaller, and ingredients are slim pickings, but it's fair for the price. I can't say this is old school. Because when I was younger, hor fun and fried rice had much robust taste than what is generally available now. Nowadays it's normal to get rice noodle that's been prepared way earlier, only to sit around getting cold and hard. I wasn't expecting a lot from here, but I got what I paid for.

The plain hor fun is good.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Humble little store ran by an old couple for 49 years! This store only sells 3 items: Fried Rice, Hor Fun and Prawn Egg.
Don't expect premium ingredients or amazing flavours that would blow your mind. It is a really quaint and humble taste of home. Also affordable as price remains fixed at $3 for the carbs!
Ingredients are the same for the horfun and rice: fishcake, egg and lean pork meat.
Horfun lack of wok hei but it's okay. Ok portion size for the average foodie. Slippery kway teow and savory gravy.
Fried rice uses overnight rice as the rice separates well and are grainy ☺️ small amount of silver fish on the top gave it a nice flavour.
