Wen Ji First Porridge House - 335 Smith St

Before I wrote this post, I googled best porridge in Singapore and noticed that the list was largely similar, some of my favourite porridge was in there but the ones from Chinatown were missing! OMG! Chinatown has no good porridge!! The place where you can always hear conversations in Cantonese but has no porridge to offer!! I guess I can only blame the internet for it. Tiong Shian, Tian Tian, Wen Ji, were all missing from the list! Many years ago, I first heard of this when I asked a colleague what was the nicest porridge in Chinatown, I was hoping to hear Tiong Shian but I was told that this stall right at the sector facing Tiong Shian was the one that everybody went to. Because I am usually at this market for breakfast, I have never tried it. 15 years on, I finally got a chance. Yes 15 years! This serving is $4 and has vegetables in there. Is it still legendary? Maybe not so anymore but definitely above average. Fried intestines and yummy mince meat made this porridge a delight, serving size is more generous than others. If you are there, do try it out. Same sector as the famous Claypot rice in Smith Street market.
