Went to Cheng San Market for breakfast. Tried out this 香记粿条麵汤 stall. For $4 Bak Chor Mee, you will get a generous bowl full of noodles and ingredients. You will find minced pork, slices of fish cakes, pork liver, wanton, fish balls and meat balls. Their Mee Pok was a bit overcooked, thus their noodles were losing the springy texture it supposed to have. Pork liver was overcooked too, as it was hard and tough. Wanton, fish and meat balls were average, overall nothing much to rave about this stall.

While generous with their ingredients, the 'herr giao' is obviously factory-made— I wouldn't be surprised if they were purchased straight from ntuc (they taste like it too); the fishballs are too firm and tasteless; the slivers of liver are sliced too thin AND overcooked to be any fun. The stall does strike me as one offering a "traditional" dish afterall the surrounding tables are occupied with older folks slurping on their noodles. Maybe they can appreciate the minutest of subtleties of the soup; for me, it's about as appealing as mildly flavored boiled water.

The ‘soul’ of their Bak Chor Mee (Dry noodles with minced meat) was sorely missing - i.e the noodle sticks together with an unpalatable alkaline smell and even taste. The rest of the BCM was ok, the fishballs are factory-made (tender, juicy and no fishy smell), the pig liver was cooked to ideal (pinkish, soft and velvety) though the pork lard was missing too. Maybe you should try different type of noodles except their Mee Kia.

Traditional 米粉汤 full of ingredients; with minced pork, meat ball, fish ball, 魚餃, pig liver, mushroom, sliced fish cake, pork lard, shallot, fried garlic & onion, 冬菜, lettuce... pork lard is extra crispy.

Jul 2019. An above average bak chor mee stall. I ordered a dry version mee pok at $3. I was disappointed because there was no prawn as displayed on the poster. Well, i was old enough to know this was the reality and didn't kick up a fuss. The taste was not too bad with its own chilli and ketchup mix. The thing was the mee pok was overcooked. And also they used a huge plastic bag to transport its stock soup from its central kitchen. Hot soup in a plastic bag, duh!

I first discovered this stall when I was renting around 3 years ago and it’s become one of my go-to stalls for kway teow soup ever since. Even after I’ve moved out, I would still take a Grab down to have a hearty bowl of soup here. The ingredient and the portion is very generous for the price. The soup is flavourful and it contains fish slices, meat balls, fish balls, mushrooms, minced meat and fish dumplings. Highly recommend!

I ate it a few times and it gets better. I think this Mee Pok may just come across as average, but if you eat it carefully, it’s pretty good. It’s not quite the standard of Kovan’s Famous Mee Pok but I think it’s good enough for a everyday eat. In fact, in the AMK markets, this Mee Pok still ranks pretty high and this is still a compliment. The best of AMK Bak Chor Mee are real hidden GEMs, old school stuff that reviewers seldom cover in IG!
