Checked out this stall selling prawn noodle inside Balestier Market. Apparently they were previously from the Longhouse along Upper Thomson. I was there around 12pm and there was already a queue formed at the stall but it moved fast and in no time it was my tun to order. A bowl of basic prawn noodle starts from SGD$5.5O onward, my bowl of noodle comes with 4 half ang ka prawns. Prawns were fresh and cooked to the right doneness. The broth was pretty tasty but has a strong peppery taste to it. Overall, quite a decent bowl of prawn noodle, if you happen to be in Balestier during lunchtime, can consider heading over for a bowl.

Once upon a time, like two decades ago, this food centre on the street side of Balestier, when you can still park legally on the side the road, my colleagues and I remembered there's a decent big prawn Noodle located here. After awhile you don't hear about it much anymore and anyway the street side you can't park legally now, so its quite a pain to eat here. This food centre is also no longer known to have great food but more of an evening beer hangout, as more locals nearby come here for drinks. I am nearby for some other errands, so might well as check out a once famed prawn noodle. Bad sign number one, peak lunch hour 130pm and totally no queue at this once famed stall. Bad sign number two, on my way in, totally did not see any diners eating prawn noodle. Nevethless, I haven't even heard of any other nice food here, let's just go with it. Menu starts from $5.50 to $7.50. For just prawn noodles. Witnessed my bowl of noodle being cooked by an impatient lady, whom kept prodding my order while I am considering. Her tinkering about like a busy cook with a hour long queue to serve, acting super busy, yet I only see me, myself and I in queue. Collected my noodles, picked up some cut chilli and went about to start. Colour looked nice, but was I ever so wrong. First sip on the star prawn soup and I regretted deeply. Proper prawn mee soup taste of simmered pork bones, fried prawn heads and fried shallots or garlic, in whichever proportions depend on recipe. This soup here tastes like the dishwater you would wash your prawns with, sweetened by corn. Trying to overcome my digust, quickly toss and try the noodles, for one, soggy and overcooked, no fragrant whatsoever from the chilli and fried shallots, and worse, soggy Pork Lard. Prawns, too many really, four whole good size prawns in halves. And now you know why. Frozen prawns with no taste. So for $5.50 to $7.50, you bait with value. But seriously, waste of money if you really can't eat it. Yes, its thats bad

My new favourite prawn mee! The prawns were cooked to order and perfectly done. Some others pointed out that their noodles were over cooked, I did not experience that with all 3 bowls purchased during my visit. The soup is exactly what I look for. A good blend between prawn and pork bone. It’s seafoody yet earthy. It has a strong pepper punch though. But I do enjoy it. Dry noodles were ordinary.

Near my place so will be there once a while when craving for prawn noodle. Would recommend the $7.50 portion as the prawns are good size and I feel is the best value. Good points of this stall is that their prawns are always fresh and of decent size compared to other stalls. Service is also fast despite some queue except when they are overwhelmed with delivery. Not so good point is the lack of consistency as noodle standards varies when the lady boss is not cooking. Of late the standard seems to be back on track as last 2 servings was ok. Probably better supervision and QC by lady boss. Go later in the day if you want to have the best version of the soup as it tends to taste more bland in the morning.

Very good fresh sweet luscious medium size prawns. Everything else... meh. Soup broth was neither here nor there. Wasn't prawny. Wasn't porky. Wasn't even rock sugary either. Tasted more like a weak peppered bak kut teh soup. Pork ribs were still tough. Not the Ah Hui I remember from days passed.

The bowls of prawn noodles and prawn noodles were impressive. However @ $ 6.00 per bowl this is above the average price. The soup was extremely peppery and did not have the robust prawn and pork stock of the famous trio . Th whitish pork ribs and bland meat may be the answer. The ribs are first cooked in a peppery stock bah kut teh style and then the broth is added to the prawn stock. So the ribs are not simmered in the pork and prawn stock to infuse the umami flavours. Maybe this is also to prevent over cooking. The noodles - yellow and white were well cooked and slurpable from the bowl. Prawns were fresh and on the half shell for easy removing. So it is just an ok bowl of prawn noodles which may have been better when sold in Long House

Lost and Found Ah Hui Big Prawn Noodles used to be at Long House Thomson, and relocated now to Balestier Market, along Balestier Road. I ordered the No. 6 mixed combo at $8; and comes with 2 small pig tails, 2 small pork ribs, and 1.5 prawns ? Verdict: - for $8 prawn noodles, price slightly expensive for the servings and ingredients - standard dropped if compare to Long House Thomson - prawn soup quite diluted and not savoury as before (maybe it's 10am morning and boil not long enough) - pork lard is soft, should be crunchy and crispy Operating Hours: 8am - 8pm daily, except close on Monday

Our regular hunt for prawn noodles. My usual order is $7.50 soup noodles pork ribs and prawns. Another person got the $15 big day prawn dry. Check out the big ? prawns in comparison to the regular one . The soup is umami and not too porky . The dry version is a blend of chili vinaigrette.
