Art Gallery Cafe - 81 Beach Rd

The lunch is very worth here, clay pot chicken rice is good. Western food is ok, i feel that the fish and chips is slightly charred. But the fish and chip quite thick and juicy. Lunch set comes with free flow coffee or tea and a scoop icecream for dessert. Totally worth it. Just that the staff here kinda frown upon using credit card payment even though i do see that they have nets machine. Fyi nearest carpark is along tan quee lan street, not really wheelchair friendly as there is a small flight(3 steps) of stairs right at the entrance. You can call the hotel number and they can divert the call to the art gallery cafe for order

I took away their ox stew and it is literally THE BEST in town!! So grateful to a friend who introduced me to this gem ?? the ox is tender, the soup is super rich in taste!???

Such a hidden gem! One of the best Oxtail stews (S$18++) I had!! My friend had chicken chop rice set (S$11++) and it was very decent too. Price has increased but still reasonable imo.

Went past this eatery many times but hesitant to go in as it was inside the hotel, so expected prices to be high. Tried it for the first time today. The prices are lower than expected (but I was told it was much cheaper about 2 years ago). Set lunches are mostly $10++ and $11++ with the Ox-tail Stew with Rice priced higher at $18++. Set lunches come with an ice cream. Was told that it used to be bundled with drinks but now drinks are separate. Ordered the Hainanese Pork Chop with Rice set. Very impressed with the Pork chop's texture. It was served fresh and the outside was crispy, but the meat inside was very tender and bouncy. At first bite I really thought it was fish cake. Didn't know you could prep pork to such bounciness.. But I felt that the seasoning for the pork was kinda bland. If it was tastier I think it would be perfect. In terms of taste I felt that the sauce carried it. Serving size was very generous. After the main came the ice cream. I was served a strawberry-flavored ice cream. It was very soft though it is not clear if was due to melting from being outside for a while, or if it was made to be that soft. Regardless, it's good, simple pleasure to me. Overall I enjoyed the meal. Definitely will come back and try the curry chicken and ox-tail stew which were recommended to me. The place tend to get a lil crowded towards 12.30pm so it was quite noisy. I think the place gets full pretty fast during lunch hour so do get there earlier if you are in a big group.
