Food has wok hey but price is on the higher side. Table is limited to 1.5hr of eating time. The place has very limited seating and more like canteen style. The digital menu and physical menu price does not tally. The digital is more expensive, so do be careful when ordering. Ate $120+ for 4 pax. Overhyped. The Kam Leng Hotel is more like foreign worker dormitory. If can, do not use the hotel toilet. The cleanliness is not optimal.

First of all, if you are planning to take retro photos in Kam Leng Hotel since you are eating at Enjoy Eating House and Bar ala Wong Kar Wei’s “In the mood for love” movie, don’t. The place is now a quarantine hotel for foreign workers who just entered the country. A lot of the displays have been removed and we were warned not to go near any of the rooms. Back to the restaurant, we came at 12 noon and the place was empty. So we were wondering why there is a need to book a table and why there is a limit of 90 minutes for diners. Later we saw the place filling up. We ordered XO white fish soup, crispy fish maw salad, grandma’s te kah bee hoon, tinpot prawn tang hoon, steamed spicy lime squid and for dessert, we ordered chendol panna cotta and Teochew Orh Ni to share. Altogether with 3 cups of Chinese tea, the bill came up to be $138.89. The fish soup was normal. Because we ordered too much, but the time we got back to it, the soup was cold and tasted not as good. My bad. As for the crispy fish maw salad, we liked the zesty lime, the crispy cashew nuts and onion taste of the salad but the pieces of fish maw tasted like it’s been fried for quite some time and left in the open. The large portion te kah bee hoon was also a let down. Instead of pork trotters, mostly we got belly meat instead of collagen filled cuts. And there was no wok heat infused into the bee hoon. More like economic or vegetarian bee hoon. The spicy lime squid was normal and serving was so small. Not sure if the three of us had more than three pieces of squid between us. The saving grace was the Tinpot Prawn Tang Hoon or mungbean vermicelli. I personally think this is as good as those you get in Thailand. The vermicelli had a chewiness and comes infused with seafood umami. The prawns were not supper fresh but acceptable. Dessert wise, the Orh Ni was a delight. Smooth and silky. The chendol panna cotta had a strange slight bitter taste. We finally nailed it to the green agar agar. Did I mention the service. The one service staff was sullen faced throughout. He was not rude but his demeanour was very brusque and impatient. One customer tried hard to strike up a conversation but retreated after he found it was getting him nowhere. A female server joined at about one and first thing she did was to ask if she could clear our table while we were still picking morsels out of the plates! Parking is a challenge along Jalan Besar as usual. So I am not seeing many reasons for me to come back to this fusion zichar that is rather pricey. Certainly not the Kam Leng Hotel location now.

After so much hypes from internet, finally went there to try out their signature dishes! Overall: 4 stars! I like it. Ambience: 2 stars. They try to be retro but seriously, not there yet. But hey, surely one doesn’t go there for the ambience! Food: 4 stars! We ordered their signature pork trotter bee hoon, XO white fish soup, nyonya curry chicken & ugly cabbage. TBH, other than ugly cabbage which is quite normal - u can cooked it on ur own, the rest are quite good. I love the XO white fish soup ~ everything is just nice. Pig trotter is very tender but the taste is a bit bland. Nyonya curry chicken is a surprise. I didn’t expect it to taste so rich, not santan rich but the flavour & texture of every ingredients. I’ll definitely come back for other dishes!

Pig trotter bee hoon was very impressive! The bee hopn was well cooked and although the pig trotters taste slightly on the dry side. Chef Joell’s mee kia was delicious too! Kind of wished the had condensed milk to go along with the fried mantou? Dessert was perfection. Hidden gem indeed, highly recommended? Fair warning capacity of the place is not big so make sure to make a reservation before arriving?

Very good adaptations of traditional Chinese food. Their crispy hor fun is superb! This place has an old school deco with lots of memorabilia. Nice to place to browse around and enjoy the very good dishes.

Was there for dinner last night as a friend went before and recommended it. Had some confusion over the orders because the physical menu and the onlineemu seems different. It's kinda hard to read from the physical menu also because of the layout and the lack of images to showcase the dishes. Ordered about 5 dishes to share and have to say we liked the food a lot. Was told initially that the flavours of the food would be strong and true enough it was but we all enjoyed it. For me my most favourite dish had to be the hainanese chicken satay, the meat was so tender and dish was well executed. The ugly vegetables looked so ordinary but tasted so good. Bill for 4 came up to be slightly more than 100+ but we thought it was quite reasonable. Similar to the price of a restaurant and all of us were quite full. Definitely will head back again cause there are other dishes I would like to try!

Was going to give a 4-star rating but increased it to 5 because the staff were so nice despite there being one difficult female customer there (saw her scold a male staff with rather rude gestures). All the dishes were great and brought back happy memories of the food made by my grandma. Especially enjoyed the chendol (wish it came in a bigger portion for that $8 price though). Not sure if the aircon wasn’t working but we started perspiring when we entered the restaurant despite there being an air cooler nearby. So we quickly ordered a cold drink to cool ourselves down. As mentioned, the staff were really nice and the food came quickly. Nice and hot. Just one suggestion. Keep the menu’s QR code at the table so we can order more dishes without having to ask for the QR code each time? I tried saving the web address but it always shows Page Not Found until I rescan the QR code.

It was a interesting experience. A quaint restaurant at an Old nostalgic hotel (Kam Leng). Wasn’t expecting the restaurant to be small and probably only could fit only a couple of big tables. We had a party of 10, celebrating Mother’s Day. We were so used to having our gatherings at restaurant where we could order dishes per portion size enough to feed 10. This restaurant’s portion will seem a little too small and you probably need to order more. My mum was impressed with the fusion menu of local dishes. My tastebuds are intrigued by the different sauces they served up for different dishes. Eg the BBQ pork cheek , it came with a very interesting and yet yummy sauce which I couldn’t quite comprehend what that taste it was. Kudos to the chef for making this so special. I will certainly recommend this place for small group hangouts.
