Hong Chang Frog Porridge and BBQ Fish - 2 Braddell Rd

2nd time here. Felt like food during the 1st visit was better. Ordered the diced chilli frog, omelette and vegetables. The taste was good but the quality of the frogs seemed to have drop. Abit stringy compared to the past.

I still remember passing this place and always seeing lots of people eating here. This month I finally found the chance to see why so many people supporting this place. A very Malaysia style of coffee shop, serving some super good foods such as their signature frog leg. Initially I want to grab the frog porridge, but was told the taste could be even better without mixing with the porridge in the claypot. I do agree as the sweet taste didn’t diluted with the porridge. So you could order the porridge separately instead.

Finally had a chance to visit this famed frog porridge restaurant, after a failed attempt previously due to lack of parking spaces. ? the sauce from the frog leg dish was really spicy, which properly enhances the flavour of the dish since it wasn’t very flavourful - it goes very well with the porridge too ? the big porridge at $3 is sufficient to fill 6-8 bowls at 80% full, so do your math! ? stingray was really meaty as commented by the other customers, paired with a decent sambal to make it a properly good dish ? omelette with prawns was sort of affordable for a restaurant at $8 ? squid with 2 vegetables (choice between long bean, petai and ladyfinger) was well cooked, with a similar sambal to the stingray - recommend to go for the pure vegetables dish instead, though the squid is really succulent ? $62.50 for 4 pax, though we didn’t order as much for what we should, I still felt that it was really affordable for what it is The only downside would really be the location, but looking at the crowd, it certainly doesn’t deter the loyal customers from returning to this friendly frog porridge restaurant ??

Great frog leg and porridge. Super crowded for dinner. Limited parking space. Omelette and sambal sotong and kangkong were good too. The stingray was a bit weird and has fishy taste, not so great. Overall was good. Definitely recommend if you like frog leg!!

Came here around 8.15pm but there was still a big crowd. Every table was occupied and even when I finished my meal at 9ish; people were still streaming in. Ordered 3 frogs for $16 which was quite decent, but I think the frogs were quite tiny. Didn’t look like there were 3. The sauce was good, we requested to have it spicy instead of the mild version. The portion for the plain porridge was huge for 2. We only ordered the small one. Ordered an additional dish to share - squid with 3 vege for $13. Portion was just right. Taste was good as well. If you like the chinchalok sauce, go get it on your own. It’s self service. But overall, it was an OK or above average experience for me.

My perfect Hong Chang visits look very much like this. We later also ordered the frog porridge too just to try - in here you taste the frog more clearly, cooked with ginger! Not bad if yould prefer a cleaner taste.

This has become my go to late night froggo porridge spot. It’s always busy so, be prepared to wait a little for a table. Two kinds of frogs are available for eating with porridge and the portions of porridge are generous. The BBQ seafood is also very good and all reasonably priced. Homemade beverages are also great. An all round spot, would come back and would recommend.

Service : 4 stars, already have a guy to help you to take order, queue can be a little slow Food : Frog leg: 5 stars. pretty silky smooth. A solid protein. The sauce is well cooked. Porridge: 5 stars. Not watery, good bite, good portion for the price. Lala: 5 stars. cooked in ginger. Really affordable price and taste wise is really good Lime juice: 4 stars a little pricey and volume wise is small. But damn. It is tasty, not too sour. Really refreshing
