★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The Staff attitude is not that good. Food is really too expensive. They go by the weight of the food, not the ingredients that you choose. The food portion is totally not worth the price. The price for the weight of food is depends. Sometimes can be quite exp, sometimes can be quite normal. For example; 850g is $26 on sunday then Monday is 850g for $23. Totally not worth it.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This is the 4th location of gong yuan that I have tried. Came at 4ish in the afternoon but disappointed that the choices of ingredients is so limited (no fish, no luncheon meat, no bean curd skin) and the worst shocker is no tomato based soup also.
Worst experience with gongyuan so far. Don’t think will patronize this branch again as I read other similar review months ago.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Reminds me of the Ma La Tang from China, especially the ingredients and drinks are typical of those in China. This however is many times more expensive for the quantity purchased and also the mid level spicy (中辣) is really very mild for those who can take their spice. The numbness is also very mild can taste a bit here and there but not pronounced. Will be happy to go there but suggest go at off peak period as queue can be long and you kind of being rush to finish and leave. Overall apart from soup the ingredients are fresh.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Went to NEX's Gong Yuan mala tang today. Have politely asked the staff if they could refill some of the ingredient. Well, actually I only needed two (meatball and beanfurd skin). And FYI, almost 75% of the ingredient were EMPTY. Lady staff said to me - "We don't have enough manpower." Then goes into a corner beside the cashier and plays with her phone.
Honestly very very disappointed. I used to always dine here. But after today's experience, you have lost a loyal customer with your staff's behaviour.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Located within NEX mall above Serangoon MRT (NEL/CCL). This shop generally has a got long queue during meal times and is always filled with diners.
Intrigued, I finally got to try them today! Ordered the Tomato Soup with the picked ingredients (to me, a good tomato soup can determine the quality of broths in the rest of the shop!).
A minimum weight of 280g of ingredients is required for every bowl. I got up to 985g with my mum and partner. Choices such as meatballs, seafood balls, tofu, chicken and pork and a few types of vegetables were available. Most did not look very fresh! The prawns were mushy too.
Soup wise, it tasted like diluted campbell minestrone soup.
Overall, not impressed and not worth the price for me to go back.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Always a very popular place during lunch times! Queue is very long but understandably so. The malatang is very fragrant but definitely overpriced for basic ingredients. We went for pork bone broth and mala soup (low spice) of which both were delicious.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Food is ok
Service is slow
Feeling very thirsty after meal
Good for individuals who want to occupy a big table during peak hours.
In the first 20 minutes we were there only 1 order came out from the kitchen and there were empty tables/ takeaway orders. The cook was busy on the phone.
Service staff does not manage the queue, customers walk in and choose their seats.
Seems to be fixed price for all items on the counter.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Gong Yuan Mala Tang is not new in Singapore and has been around for quite sometime. I first had their mala tang back in their kovan branch and was quite impressed with the soul base and wide selection of ingredients that were avaliable for selection.
The nex outlet is slightly bigger than the one in kovan and they have more sears available. During weekends, you will definitely need to queue up outside as they are usually full during key peak hours.
You will need to queue up and when seats are available, the staff will bring you in and asked you to select your ingredients. You will need to grab a bowl and pick yourself. Do take note that the minimum weight is at least 280g. For two person, I manage to load up at total of 850g for a total price of 25.20 including gst and service charge. The price per 100g is at 2.68 sgd.
The soup taste wise is standard across all their outlets in Singapore. I'm not sure if msg is added into their soup but I don't really feel thirsty after having it. Maybe experts can advise on this. Haha. Overall, it is a a good experience for me in terms of taste and freshness of the food. Do come over and try it out if you're around the area! ?
