We tried their chicken mentai rice bowl and the unagi egg rice bowl, and was pleasantly surprised by how succulent the chicken cutlet was. The mentai mayo sauce was not overly rich and complemented the cutlet nicely. Very happy to welcome Mentai-Ya to our neighbourhood!

Tried thΓ© mentaiko chichen katsu and the meat is smooth like butter sia! And the mentaiko is not very heavy and the rice is good too. I’ll come back here to try the curry chicken katsu?

I ordered the spicy salmon mentai don which cost $8.80. It is flavourful and the mentaiko sauce is not over powering which is a plus!! highly recommend this place if you live near ??

I ordered the Chicken Mentai Don. The chicken was not bad, but a bigger eater may not find the bowl enough ? . Overall not bad on taste, but portions can be bigger for me.

Ordered the Chicken Katsu Don, Chicken Katsu Curry Don, and Mentai Fries. I had the Chicken Katsu Don while my partner had the Chicken Katsu Curry Don. The curry was not bad for a "semi-fast food" place; potatoes in the curry were nice and tender. The chicken katsu on the other hand was another story: the chicken was tasteless and dry AF (and rather overcooked), was semi-lukewarm when served (wasn't very warm to touch), which leads me to believe that the chicken katsu had been cooked and sitting out for awhile prior to us ordering. There was some sauce on my rice, but it wasn't quite enough to add flavour to the entire don, seeing that the chicken katsu was tasteless. The only saving grace was the mentai fries which was great. Admittedly not freshly fried, but at least it manager to stay crispy until the end of the meal (was probably double fried). The mentai was lightly torched before being transferred onto the fries. Ratio of mentai to fries was just nice. Usually for such establishments, the staff will wear gloves while preparing the food, but clearly none was worn while handling food (didn't wash hands after collecting cash payment either and it was the same staff that collected money and prepared the food). Also witnessed the same staff sitting on the food preparation counter and propping her feet (with footwear) on the makeshift counter table opposite, while using her phone when there wasn't any customers.
