This was our second visit to the National Kitchen after being wowed by the food and the ambiance last time. So far, we've tried Beef Rendang, Rebung Masak Lemak, Garam Assam Fish, Jasmine Rice, Roti Prata, and Pineapple Upside-down Cake, and every single dish has been absolutely delicious. Their Beef Rendang is to die for. The meat is tender and falls off when you dig in, and melts in your mouth. The rendang gravy just hits the right spot. Their Garam Assam Fish and Rebung Masak Lemak are great as well. Their Pineapple Upside-down Cake was amazing the first time with a perfect amount of caramelization. This time around, it was still 9/10, but it lacked a little bit of caramelization. Being located at the National Gallery, the decor perfectly captures the National Kitchen name. It gives you a heritage, royal vibe, and makes a great spot for a date or a family dinner. Their service is extremely attentive and 11/10. When we arrived for their second seating for lunch at 1:35pm, they were extremely busy clearing the tables and closing tabs of the first seating customers. It led to a ~10 mins wait outside. However, even amongst the mad rush, they gave out complimentary welcome drinks to all guests waiting outside. They personally went to every single table to apologize for the wait and rush earlier, and comped off our dessert as well. On top of that, they went on to discount the meal by 10%, which was absolutely not necessary. We'd feel happy to pay full price here, because the prices are very reasonable, and the food and the ambiance is just amazing. We'll keep coming back here time and again.

Was having high expectation because of the rating and the ambience. Specially booked a table for my partner's birthday as he loves peranakan food. Food was alright, but below expectation. Staff were friendly! Nice ambience but way too noisy. No little birthday dessert for my partner. Not a must but it's usually a little effort from classy restaurants.

I went here with my family and we had an amazing overall experience with this restaurant. The foods are delicious. Some of the dish we ordered are butter prawn, beef rendang, ngoh hiang, tapioca cake, chap chye, chicken satay and a kuay pie tee and we loved them all. We were really pleased with the service, their team are extremely approachable and attentive. As for the ambience, we felt very comfortable and relaxed. The place is very welcoming and enticing. We will definitely recommend this place to our friends and colleagues!

Vegetarian food availability: 3 stars Majestic ambiance and incredibly amiable staff. This place serves Peranakan cuisine in a beautiful ambience. They sell many vegetarian items. The food was delicious. The prata was very crispy and melted in your mouth. The curry that complemented was creamy and rich. Along with that, the lettuce starters were extremely delectable. It was crispy, fresh and moist. The filling of vegetables and tofu really elevated it. The tofu platter was bad. It was bland and I donโ€™t recommend it. I went here to celebrate my birthday. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Jesse and Rowel made it a memorable event. I really loved the complimentary coconut cake. It was soft, fluffy and delicious. Overall, a good place.

Went there to celebrate my auntโ€™s birthday and we had a wonderful time! It was enjoyed by my whole family as we were attended to by the best team of staffs, especially Rowel. The food was also of great quality, especially the chicken satay, dry laksa and Pulut Hitam. Definitely worth another visit!

Nice ambiance. Food was ok. What puts my friends and I off was that the service staff constantly reminded us to return the table by 1.30pm. Halfway through our meals we were reminded twice and while having desserts, the service staff gave us the bill and said that we have to leave. We donโ€™t feel welcome and this place is definitely not a place for getting together.

What a lovely restaurant. Visited with my daughter and her baby for lunch. Beautiful decor. Staff very friendly and helpful. Best part of the food was chicken satay. Nice big chunks of chicken and plenty of sauce. If I was visiting again with 4 people Iโ€™d book ahead to request the booths.

Vintage interior reminds me of the golden years back then. Professional service, however portion is slightly small with the pricing charged. Ambience is absolute, beverages pricing too slight above average. Great quality food and presentation. First time visit, might not back for the second time. Would probably try their high tea tho!
