The best Myanmar food in town! I'm never tired of trying all the assorted curries or Monhingar, a national breakfast or those other traditional food preparations, cooked by the expert ladies...............

Hawker centre food stall at Clementi. Good stuff. Tea leaf salad is a fave for me, and that's what I came to find!

Glad to discover this place, now we don't have to go down to Inle at Peninsula Plaza for Myanmar food. The lady manning the stall was friendly and tried her best to explain what the dishes are :) Their servings are generous, we ate there and bought different dishes for takeaway. Will be back soon to try their mango salad.

Having never eaten Myanmar cuisine before, it was a pleasant surprise to know I can try it at a stall near where I frequent. I visited the stall over 3 occasions to try out the different dishes that are commonly found in Myanmar - tea leaf salad (lahpet thoke), chicken chilli noodle salad (nangyi thoke) and rice noodle in fish broth (mohinga). Of the three, the strongest tasting dish was the tea leaf salad. Prepared in Yangon style, there’s ample peanut oil as garnish and it was definitely unique trying out pickled tea leaves!! Although the portion looks small, I felt quite full after finishing it. It’s an acquired taste in my opinion. The nangyi thoke is quite similar to udon but Burmese style. It’s served at room temperature or a tad cold (salad mah) so don’t be surprised if you thought it wasn’t cooked or left there for a long time. This I think would be easier for locals to try. There’s some crispy chickpea fritters and the overall flavour is just right. The best dish I like is the mohinga. The soup is made from fish and the overall feel is like mee Soto but the color is closer to mee rebus. You can add the chilli powder which is really smoky!! It’s quite spicy but gives a good kick to the dish. No worries on the fishy taste as ample spices have been added to give this soup a rich but balanced flavour. The 3 dishes I had were priced at $5 each, quite reasonable considering the ingredients are not commonly found in SG. So if you are in Clementi next time and wondering what to eat, pop in to this stall (inside coffeeshop) to try some authentic Burmee food.

Quite rare to find Myanmar Cuisine right in a Neighbourhood HDB Coffee-Shop. I noticed there was quite a queue for this stall and interestingly, most of the customers are actually Myanmese themselves. Queue wasn't long. It took about maybe just 10mins for me. Personally, I have never travelled to, nor tasted Myanmar Food before so I can't tell if this tasted authentic or not. Though, if even Myanmese Folks are queuing for it, I reckon the taste should be quite authentic. Randomly chose 2 of the most exotic sounding dishes that were listed to do my review for: "Nangyi Thoke" and "Mohingha" Nangyi Thoke ($5.00) This is the big pile of Fried Noodles that you see on the right. As you can see, the serving is very generous. When I bite into it, the first thing that caught me off-guard was that the dish tasted cold. Despite that, it was filled with many crispy pieces of what tasted like a mixture of Pork Lard, Peanuts and Fried Shallots. What a Unique and Delicious Flavour!! One thing to note is that this Dish is quite Oily, so if you're concerned about this, you might want to take note of it. I asked for the Spicy version, and the spice level was mild with a slight bite to it. Noodles texture has a surprisingly soft bite-feel. It also comes with a small bowl of Peppery Taugeh Cabbage soup and the Taugeh Taste is very strong for this one. I wished this Dish was served hot, but maybe Nangyi Thoke is supposed to be served cold? Nevertheless, the whole dish is very appetizing and 开味. I really enjoyed it and felt I could eat another plate of it! Mohingha ($5.00) This is the Soupy Beehoon looking dish on the Left of the Photo. This dish is served hot, and I thought it was especially good considering it was quite a Cold Rainy Weather. Beehoon is used in this dish and its cut short enough to be able to be eaten using a Spoon. Again, the texture of the Beehoon is not al-dente, but soft. The Soup is really the highlight for this dish. It has a very complex flavour that is both unique and comforting. Tastes really Onioney (in fact there is actually a small bulb of Onion in the dish itself) I can't really place my finger on what are the key ingredients. Maybe Lemongrass and Onions? The closest thing I can describe the taste is that it tastes like a very Savoury Version of Mee Soto but that's not doing justice to the Dish itself. Conclusion Summary: I really enjoyed both dishes and their tastes are very unique and definitely taste different from any Singapore dishes I have tasted. You don't have to be an adventurous eater, they actually do taste very nice. Definitely must give this a try if you are here!
