β β β β β The standard had dropped so much, some common coffeeshop pow taste better, eg $1.30 Tim Sim, so much better and Tiong Bahru pow is not cheap, the pow skin is also very thick and egg tart extremely sweet and not well baked.

β β β β β I love their Char Siew Pau!! And considering that each of their Pau is only like $1, their ε
is REALLY good!!
First of all, brown char siew are the better quality ones and the char siew here is really good tasting char siew! It's not the cheap Kong Guan kind that you have to pay $0.70 to get.
The filling here has got chives in it, and it's not the usual very sweet cheap BBQ pork filling.
This definitely does have the smoky BBQ smell and the chives does add flavour to the pork!!
My only complain about this is that there isn't much filling in the buns but then again they are selling quality food for relatively cheaper prices thus the less than full filling in the buns!
Overall, a definite must eat/try!!

β β β β β Training at nearly hdb hub and visited this place to get something for tea break. The pau was good especially the char siew pau. One of the better ones in Singapore. There were many traditional snacks on sale inside too.

β β β β β This is still my favourite place for lor mai kai (glutinous rice). And the siew mai was just huge and it was really delicious!

β β β β β Tiong Bahru Pau is famous for their char siew bao and fan choy. Unfortunately the char siew bao and da bao have changed, the dough is way too thick and outer bao skin is tough. Feels like what you get from coffee shop bao from the steamer. Both char siew bao and da bao have reduced in size, the fillings for both bao is still tasty but also reduced in portion as well. Fan choy also lacks flavor while the glutinous rice texture is still great. The only item that they have managed to retain the standard is siew mai. I had this Tiong Bahru Pau since I was a child and over the last 2 years they quality has deteriorated significantly. I don't think will come back for their bao anymore.

β β β β β The last time I had Pau from TBP was more than a decade ago at their Tiong Bahru outlet. So I bought quite a few items to try and I canβt help but feel the standard dropped. The best items are the Chicken Glutinous rice and the fried chicken ball (see pic). The rest of the items (including the char siew pau) are rather normal.

β β β β β Very weird vibe here. The big Pau smell, taste, texture are all fantastic. Although some may say it's too peppery. Cost is $2 which is OK given that factory made pau cost same or more. That's pretty much all that's good. The staff were v rushed auntie rushing people to order, but then their items are all hidden in the steam baskets and the menu is so small. I always cannot make a proper decision because I don't have enough information. And it doesn't help that their business is good so there are a lot of people behind me. Their signature item, the chicken egg ball thing is kinda overrated. It's not even nice IMO. But regardless, get the Pau and just be on your way out
