Portions follow suit American style since this is at American club. Sweet potato fries are well fried. Impossible burger patty could afford to be warm and toasty since this is not a fast food chain. + clam chowder soup tastes good though it is not warm enough when served. -Milkshake tastes fine but could afford to be more blended. Overall, kitchen staff food standards has room for improvement. Service is acceptable. The more often you visit, the friendlier they would be.

Tradewinds is the casual family restaurant in the members only The American Club. It recently opened after a 2 year renovation exercise which transformed the club from a cosy, classy, well designed and quiet place into a modern noisy establishment with little lots of glass walls and little soft furnishings to absorb the noise. Obviously the modern design looked great on paper and was chosen by a committee. Tradewinds have always delivered great American, Indian, Chinese and local fare. The menu have been streamlined to the basics by leaving out items which were not popular with the members. They have also streamlined the salad buffet and the hot buffet at dinner. The β€œnew” Tradewinds have been transformed into a dining hall with a lot of hard walls, glass walls and a open kitchen. Gone are the carpets and curtains for that cosy chat or that quiet area for a peaceful meal. The service is efficient. But the noise level is almost deafening with the combination of human chatter and the din from the kitchen. The food is cooked to order and the β€œwok hei” is really good. With two pizza ovens and a modern tandoori machine, and a giant steamer, the food can’t get any more better than freshly cooked to order. The best value is still the dinner buffet as it includes hot foods and the carved meat. Despite all the setbacks, the food is still very good and freshly cooked to order.

Tradewinds is the casual family dining restaurant at the American Club. They have a fairly wide range of American and Asian dishes with something for everyone. Prices are reasonable and the food and service are both good. On this visit, I had their classic Reuben sandwich. It was very tasty and filling. I used to get this sometimes at Dan Ryan’s but could never eat more than half of it without starting to feel, well, off. The one at Tradewinds doesn’t do that. It’s just a nice sandwich β€” well balanced and tasty. Their burgers are also good. If all you want is a sandwich, you can also get similar fare at the Union Bar downstairs, but Tradewinds has a much larger and more diverse menu. They have many local dishes for those who want those, as well as tasty Indian fare.
