Commercial gesture ? Following the purchase of a Pro Ject preamplifier by MY mistake (my amp processed the phono of my turntable) I returned to the store 22 hours after my purchase to have it taken back or exchanged for other items. The item was still new, untested with the purchase receipt. The seller did not want to know anything and wanted to advise me to have it taken back / resold elsewhere. My advice: Avoid this shop! Suite à l'achat d'un préampli Pro Ject par MON erreur ( mon ampli traitait la phono de ma platine) Je suis retourné à la boutique 22h aprés mon achat pour le faire reprendre ou échanger contre d'autres articles. L' article était toujours neuf, non testé avec le ticket d achat. Le vendeur n a rien voulu savoir et voulait me conseiller pour le faire reprendre /revendre ailleurs. Mon conseil : Fuyez cette boutique !

I needed to get a my cartridge changed and I was a bit daunted by the numerous styli, cartridges, etc in the market and not to mention if it would be compatible with my head shell which was from an older pioneer turntable. I dropped by wow acoustics on a whim having been recommended by another shop owner in Adelphi. Not wanting to make a wrong decision I brought my headshell along to make sure the cartridge I was buying would be compatible. Now other than owning a few hundred records, I'm a noob when it comes to hardware. As long as it plays i'm happy, hence the apprehension when purchasing the cartridge. I put my faith completely on the seller which was my first mistake. After hearing my budget he recommended a Goldring cartridge which according to him was decent enough. I then asked him to help me install it, to which he flatly refused saying that I shld do it myself at home with whatever tools I had and even gave me some tips. Fair enough. That was my second mistake. I was so naive to assume it would fit since a professional recommended it AFTER looking at my headshell. So I went home and guess what? It didn't fit. The head of the cartridge was too big to fit in the headshell and it wasn't flushed to the top, leaving a gap which means that aligning it was a nightmare. So again with apprehension I returned to see what could be done. This time, the owner was there. He looked at it and simply told me that I needed to get a new headshell. I argued that it was his staff that recommended the cartridge and hence some responsibility had to be taken by the shop. He said that it couldn't be returned even comparing the transaction to buying underwear! Now I completely understand that there are store policies and thought an exception could be made but he simply refused to budge on the matter. He even admitted that I should have insisted that I check before I bought it and that his staff didn't always know everything. Given that shouldn't he have at least done something to alleviate the matter? e.g recommend a cheap headshell to go with the cartridge, store credit, SOMETHING to help me, a customer that bought an item from HIS store, rather than leaving me high and dry. But no, nothing. I think thats the difference between a good and a great store. It's easy to sell stuff and get good reviews but the true test is how they handle a bad transaction and this whole experience just left a bad taste in my mouth. Hardware noobs like myself gg in to buy cartridges better know your stuff unless you want the same thing to happen to you!

It's my favourite record store due to how it looks and that they don't mark up the price too much. I preordered MoFi records and realised I couldn't commit to paying it and decided to cancel my reservation. The person mentioned about trust and said they won't take a pre-order from me again. As this is my favourite record store I didn't want to get an impression that I'm really unwanted here so I wrote to them to apologise, letting them know of the stuff I bought from them. I was hoping they'd be kind about it but all I got was just an 'Ok'. I mean I do admit it's my fault for not commiting to the reservation and apologised but getting simply just a reply like that felt really awful. I think it'd be nicer to at least share why this is such difficult issue for them to sort out and maybe be kind a little. They take their pre-orders very seriously. I'm sharing this so that others can avoid being stuck in such a situation like me. I certainly did not wish to experience such a thing. I've only cancelled Muddy Waters Folk Singer earlier. A couple of albums I told them I did not want due to it not being 45rpm was mentioned about 4-5 days after making my first ever reservation with them after hearing about the highly hyped about MoFi upcoming releases. Additional note to what HK mentioned: While I did cancel all my orders at once, the previous time I cancelled it was Muddy Waters. It's my second time. Or 3rd if you include the mistake I made when I first ordered it.
