YUN NANS 云海肴 @ Nex - 23 Serangoon Central

Really enjoyed the dinner. The grilled/BBQ fish was superb, crispy outside, soft and tender inside. I really like the dragon chives too, mildly sweet. I like the beef, but not my fellow diners who find the beef taste too strong. The highlight overall was definitely the Pao Fan, fresh, savoury, burst of flavours in the mouth. We ordered five dishes in total (grilled/bbq wings not pictured) and the price was $111-something. On the pricier end, but worth every penny.

Overall food is really tasty like home cooked food. -Fish Maw Tofu was slightly salty but good tasting overall - (not in picture as sold out this time) their chicken soup is the best, with two ways of eating. - Qing Long cai is nice with wok Hei -But the truffle Hor Fun is disappointing with no truffle taste, will not recommend it.

Review for the month of September 2021... First time dining @ this restaurant. 1 Word to summarize = Average. Well 3 things. 1) Waiting time was told estimated 20 minutes BUT to my disappointment it was more than 35 minutes! Most likely due to weekend :( 2) The Chicken Oil is quite Oily. You can see very clearly that the oily layer did NOT remove it. I feel that it is unhealthy...3) The Grill Pork Belly taste is average. Not whether did it mixed with the Lemon Grass ? Anyway the Avocado Jackfruit is Fantastic ! This is 1 of the BEST fruit juice i ever had in a restaurant ! The Tea is Nice too. But i feel that the Fruit juice wins hands down :-) Finally, i feel that the sofa (couple seats) is slightly CRAMP. Hands/Elbow. Well would i consider going back again ? Yes of course. But it will be different Food :-)

Had dinner with 2 friends and their toddler on a Saturday. They are popular where we waited for 30mins before getting a table. Love their service and their food. The servers were attentive and friendly, when asked about food recommendations, they were keen on given recommendations. The price is on a mid to mid high range with smaller portions than normal chinese restaurants. But the taste of the dishes are really well done. Will come back again.

Wasn’t aware at time of reservation that Yunnans had a “special” CNY menu: normal menu items with marked up prices (sigh, yet another restaurant that is out to maximise profit through all 15 days of CNY?) Used to like this place for the food quality, however after this disappointing visit, likely not. Disappointed by: - Overpriced menu items - Poor service by restaurant manager -The signature mixian soup tasted like what a coffeeshop youmian soup will taste like. -Truffle prawn horfun also tasted mediocre. Tasted okay: - paofan (best dish of all) - grilled fish (overpriced, nothing wow) - fried duck pieces (fragrant garlic pieces but can’t really taste the duck meat) Regretted suggesting my family for a meal here

Came here to try the seafood poached rice and it was good ?? However, service was really really bad. Ordered 2 poached rice and when they were served, the waitress commented in a very rude tone “吃不完的! 吃不完的!” (Translate: Can’t be finished! X2) FYI we are 2 petite girls but could well finish both without wastage. Ordered a desert from a lady in blue uniform but order was not placed. Checked back after 20 minutes THEN our order was placed. At around 8pm we were politely asked to leave as “there are people waiting to be seated”. However, looking around, there were at least 3 tables cleared and cleaned. Best part was there was not a single person outside waiting to be seated ?? I will never come back here again but might visit another outlet for the food. At Nex, I’d give 5 stars for food but -4 stars for service hence 1 star overall. While making payment, I was prepared to provide an honest feedback courteously to the cashier. However, she did not ask me for any comment (e.g. how was the food / service?) even though she asked the customer before me.

Visited on a Friday evening and was very crowded. Despite that, service staffs has been attentive and food was served without much waiting. A guy whom we supposed as one of the owner came out to ask opinion about their food and services, and was sharing with us the origin of certain dishes that we ordered and how they are created, which is a nice touch. Food: generally pretty well done for the food except one of the fried mushroom dish. A must try for their chicken soup. Service: Attentive and friendly Price: slightly pricer for such chinese dishes, but acceptable. Spent $200 for 4pax.

Spacious beautiful restaurant. Not full on Sunday lunch. Servers were mostly attentive. I thought pricy menu. I couldn’t appreciate the food well. Not bad food. I think slightly too much sugar even for simple chicken soup. Menu has pictures but no subtitle on what they are - owner should make this easy improvement.
