Ah Seng Braised Duck Rice - Serangoon Garden Way

Great portions & really yummy braised duck. Will be back to try the 猪肚汤! Love me some peppery broth. The accompanying soup with the duck set is not the usual dark coloured soup but theirs is a milder more natural tasting simple duck broth.

Braised Duck Rice with Glizzard. Tecohew braised duck or 卤水鸭 is quite an important dish in the Teochew culture, especially in authentic Teochew restaurants. Thankfully, the hawker culture here means we can have food stalls like this serving us A grade braised duck.

Indeed an extremely popular stall. There’s never a time where you will find nobody queuing up for it. I know because I come to this hawker center once a week for the past 6 years. As I hate to Q therefore I never attempted it till today where the stars and moon aligned. Though the Q was long, but it moves pretty fast. At $3.50 per portion you get to choose 胸(breast) or 尾（dark meat), you cannot purchase drumstick. As a duck lover, the Meat was soft, tender and flavorful. The add ons: cabbage was normal ($1), pork belly ($2) was normal (sliced too thinly therefore I couldn’t really enjoyed it the way I like). The rice they used are broken rice which I don’t really appreciate. Conclusion it’s a affordable meal that one can appreciate, except for the Q.

Ah Seng Braised Duck Rice is a family-run hawker stall, with two generations worth of history. They also have another family-run branch nearer to the Serangoon heartlands, in Serangoon Central. The family recipe is to be revered, and can’t wait to try the famous duck that was drawing such a crowd. Braised Duck Rice (S$3.50) Ah Seng serves Teochew-styled Braised Duck, so you should expect the sauce to be light and watery, unlike the luscious sauce we see in Hokkien-style Braised Duck. The subtle herbs flavour in the sauce makes it perfect to go with plain rice, which I will typically drench it completely with the sauce. Hence, it was too dry and lacking in flavour for me. However, it is a decent price for duck rice. Can eat. The queue for Ah Seng is always long, so you do need to be patient. The pre-order only works if you are doing takeaways, otherwise it is always best to have it fresh at the hawker centre.

Tender #BraisedDuck rice, with many sides to pair with (pork belly, eggs, pig head, pig skins...etc). It is decent, however not savoury enough for me personally. . There is a long queue but it gets cleared quickly thanks to the quick actions from the sellers. . #AhSengBraiseDuckRice

Long time no eat at this stall. Tabao half a duck + tau gua + tau pok + pig skin for family's lunch. The braised duck standard dropped a lot. The pig skin is soggy. Boss gave a big bag of braised sauce. Usually braised sauce is thick and very fragrant. Theirs is tasted like the cheap dark soy sauce, very liquid and no fragrance. Even white rice is cold and hard... Sigh, very disappointed.

Decided to queue as my favourite pig stomach soup stall closed today. Even shorter the queue, waiting around 30 mins. Ordered drum, heart and pig stomach soup. Meat is soft and well braised, heart is good but I have tasted better one. Well peppered soup and stomach is soft, but, is on the sweeter side for me. $10 for the set, average.

1st time buying the duck rice when I saw a shorter q this time after 1pm. The meat is tender and the braised sauce on the rice bring out the flavor. The chilli I feel is more of a sour side to pair with the meat. At $3.50 no complaints except be patient to q at least for 20mins. There is also a duck stall called Ah seng at Serangoon central.
