Had an uneasy experience with the service staff and manager lady at the NEX outlet. Felt that I was under watch all the time with the manager eyeing me constantly when i stepped into the store. Almost every piece of clothing I touched, the manager would have something to comment about whether i could or couldn’t wear. As I was browsing some loose fitting blouses, the manager told me curtly that i couldn't wear them cause it was too big for me. Her tone was quite condescending too. When i told her i was just looking around, she walked away to her staff and mumbled under her breath. While I continued browsing, I also witnessed the manager telling two middle aged ladies that the dresses they were look at were too small for them and they couldn’t wear it with large hand waving gestures. I saw the unhappy faces of the ladies after the encounter and they commented to other another as they exited the store. The least the manager could do was suggest other designs/styles for them as an alternative or politely inform them that unfortunately they might not have their sizes in store. Also saw that she was more politely towards older Chinese ladies instead when they asked questions. Another unpleasant situation I had witnessed was when a lady had tried on a sale item, not knowing that sale items were not allowed to be tried on. When she came out of the dressing room wearing the clothing item to show her husband, the manager exclaimed loudly to her that sales items were not to be tried on. This shocked the customer and she immediately apologised profusely, and said she would buy it then. After hearing that, the manager told her "oh if you're buying it then it's okay. can can no problem". I was wondering what if the lady didn't want to purchase the clothing item, how would have the manager reacted to her instead? seeing her other interactions with other customers and myself, I'm sure it wouldn't have been a pleasant one. I decided to continue with my purchase despite the experience as i have seen similar designs online of the clothes i picked and really liked the material and cutting of the pieces. However, at checkout the staff had miscalculated the total cost of my items. They had made this mistake before with my previous purchase so from that experience, i calculated the total price on my own and calmly informed the staff that the amount was wrong. She started frowning at me and her attitude changed to an unhappy tone, saying that the total price was correct and raised her voice as she stated the prices of each item individually, not even bothering to do a calculation check herself. She took out her calculator shortly after i showed her the calculation on my phone’s calculator and whined to the manager that i told her the price was wrong. After i insisted, she checked the POS machine and realised her mistake before apologising and asking for payment. After which she had asked me to check the receipt to confirm the amount was correct. Her reaction had frustrated me to be honest. if she had politely explained the breakdown of the total cost to me and admitted her mistake and corrected it, I would have been alright with it as I understand that people make mistakes. The overall experiences I had with this store wasn’t pleasant. In the short span of time i spent in the store, around 10 mins, I had witnessed many unpleasant encounters of the staff with customers. Decided to try a purchase again from this store after a year from my previous one as the clothes are affordable with decent styles to choose from, and am upset to see that the service attitude hasn’t changed much. Despite the staff’s attempt and service recovery from her mistake, i would say that the staff and manager aren’t flexible or friendly. It's quite unprofessional for the manager to behave in this manner towards customers too, I'm not sure if she's looking to sell clothes at all with such an attitude. She was very quick to rebut any comments the customers made as well, chasing them away. As such, I have decided i won’t be purchasing from this store again.
