My child has attended numerous classes, including gymnastics and even hiphop. But we have never encountered a school where the teachers make discriminatory/inflammatory remarks about my child We first sent our child for Hip Hop under Teacher Sunji because of her extensive experience grooming young children. My child was able to follow instructions. However, Teacher Sunji commented about how my child is "too short" for the class and talked about how "other potential new students may be taller than my child". It is important to state that this is a 5 - 8 year old class. By that age range, it is expected that students will come in different heights. Furthermore, her only concern is about how my child is "too short" for the class, not whether my child was able to follow instructions. Having given feedback about Teacher Sunji's comment, the school offered to let us try another teacher, Teacher Zeff. After the class, he came to comment about how my child was "a bit too young" for the class (even though my child is 5 years old and I need to reiterate again that the class under Teacher Zeff is for 5-8 years old). So we responded by saying that if his concern is about the age of the student, then the class's minimum age of 5 years old should be changed to an older age limit. Teacher Zeff could reply that the school allows 5 years old because some of them are talented and can coordinate better; hence implying that my child is not talented and not coordinated. It is no point for the school to open classes with an age RANGE of 5-8 years old if the school teachers can make comments about the student's height (which is expected since 8 year old students generally will be taller than 5 years old students). Moreover, to imply my child has no talent defeats the purpose of the school even having the motto "dance as an education". As an "educator", shouldn't teacher Zeff try to groom each student and recognise the diversity in terms of age especially since the class is for 5-8 years old? By his implication in his remark, he has already labelled my child as no "talent". This is totally uncalled for, especially for a school which is trying to educate children to love hiphop.

The establishment and the teacher does nothing to integrate young child to the class nor introduce routines to ease their learners into the lesson. When approached to ask what happened if there is initial rejection of young kids into the class, the admin staff simply said "oh then the parents should get the kids ready" by this remark i think they are either oblivious to the needs of young kids or they simply care more about earning then the needs to proper educate, else they can just simply up the age group.
