Authentic Bak Kut Teh which I think is better than alot of other big brands. Ordered quite a number of dishes to try. From the Bak Kut soup, to the liver, kidney, intestines, kiam chye and you tiao. Our favourite is the Peppery and soup taste. Follow by the intestine which is tender and tasty. And the liver which is fresh and chewy. Btw Uncle service is very good, will come and top up soup for us. U can request for more soup and they will be very happy to. Top up for u. Overall 5/5 stars!

Have lived in Balestier for almost 22 years, and I think I tried almost all the BKT stalls within the first 3 years, and after I discovered the one at Kai Juan, it's my go to place for BKT. Soup is not too peppery, the salted veg is salty, don't laugh, but at many other places it tastes a bit sweet! Their liver and kidney are also quite good, and the pigs trotters? Super tender, the meat just falls off the bone. I have not tried the intestines, not my thing, so I cannot comment. Plus I believe they are MSG free, or use such minute amounts that I don't react to it. I have been to places that within less than half an hour of finishing the meal, I start getting a headache and feeling super thirsty. Many of my friends and relatives to whom I have introduced this outlet, agree with me that it's good. So if you happen to be in the area and/or have a hankering for BKT, especially on a a rainy day, give it a try and see what you think. FYI, they are closed on Sundays, but otherwise they are open all day till about 1am.

Authentic bak kut teh with really amazing tea experience. Love how it has the homely feel. Will definitely be back for another bowl of great BKT

The soup was very fragrant, tasty, sweet and peppery, and were topped up frequently. The ribs were cooked until soft and pink. However, the salted vegetables and braised intestines were too salty and the steam pompfret was quite mushy and bland. The old school vibe was well preserved and I will return because of this.

Came to this famous old shop for lunch. The aged staff and decor reminds you life was simpler then. No sugary drinks here; just solid & good Chinese tea. I took the basic dishes. 3 pieces of ribs @ $6.5, veggies with soup @ $4 and a bowl of rice @ $0.5. Total damage was $11. Verdict? The ribs were kinda dry and a bit tough (probably overcooked), but the pepper soup was good. The veggies was nothing to shout about and the bowl of rice was pathetically small. I was still hungry after my lunch. ? So ... while the food is OK, I don't think I'll come back.

Had this bkt after a rainy day. It was perfect. However, the bkt meat was too dried. Soup is peppery enough which is good for rainy weather. The braised pork was good.. I was able to chew the pork skin easily. Ps I don’t eat pork skin. Worth to visit again since the price is quite decent.

Old school style Singapore bak kut teh. The soup is pepperish, and the pork ribs are tender. The rest of the food (liver, pickled vegetable, and fired fritters) are average. The tea pot has a visible mark of history, requires strong will to handle it.

Bak Kut Teh (SGD $8) @ Kai Juan Bak Kut Teh. . Possibly the most affordable, wallet-friendly version of Bak Ku Teh here - no frills with an old-school feel. . Typical Chinese Teochew style broth, with medium light savoury sweet peppery spice flavour. Can refill on request, though they usually proactively offer to top-up. . The pork ribs are short and stubby with a decent amount of lean meat, tender in texture with meaty sweet savoury flavour. . The warm soft pickled salted mustard greens lend vegetal salty sweet notes, while the white rice and you tiao / fried dough fritters are the cheapest around (at SGD $0.50 each), yum.
