One of the best Japanese restaurants in Singapore, definitely worthy of a Michelin star, if not two!!

The food is OK but the service is not good. It was $80 corkage fee but they never told us until bill. And when I asked if there is policy 1 for 1 on corkage fee but they totally don’t understand what I said…won’t be there again.

Our heartiest congratulations to Chi-san and his lovely wife Janice for the successful launch of their new concept teppanyaki restaurant. Well done to the entire crew for the famous hospitality and for pulling off a flawless opening night amidst tough supply chain challenges due to the pandemic. Thank you for having us along for the ride, and for hosting us before any other food blogger! It is always such a privilege to be part of the culinary journey and we are honoured to be given the chance to shape and define the final experience, with the little tweaks that the hosts are always happy to accommodate. We simply love the passion that Chi-san has infused into the creation of each course, and admire the discipline in sourcing only the best ingredients from all over the world. This lovingly curated menu, perfectly executed by Chef Choon (who hails from one of the top Japanese restaurants in Singapore), is bound to tease and coax your senses into a full awakening!

A new Rogama (charcoal grilled) and teppanyaki place at Palais Renaissance. Positioned as an affordable Atas Japanese joint in an equally Atas mall. They did a good job. We went for the lunch set and tried both Teppanyaki and Rogama. In general the Teppanyaki turned out better. The higher priced beef are better than the lower priced ( not always the case elsewhere). The seafood and beef platter turned out to be a winner. The portions looks small but believe me you will be filled. The sides were really good especially the chawanmushi. . Order the garlic fried rice - yummy. The only odd item is the tomato soup. Kinda of out of place in a traditional Japanese place (or I thought ). The plating is beautiful. Service is excellent and I hope they maintained it. They only had 1 Teppanyaki chef and the poor bloke has to shuffle between 2 groups of 5 - not easy. Yeah I would recommend giving it a try especially for lunch.

The steak was cooked sometime ago then kept then other plates were cooked for other table then chef came back to put flames on the steak, about 10 min later with pre-cooked veggies. Hence, meat was served warm not very hot which became quickly cold. Further the order got mixed up we received something we didn't order. So different servers and chef keep on checking to each other in front of us and came to talk to us back and forth for 3-4 times. They discussed if how they will deal with this, or even they will remove some items from our original menu to compensate for the expensive beef served by mistake. Meanwhile our steak in pieces got all cold. In the end, we didn't really have time to enjoy the meat in peace with a glass of wine, we ended up paying 230 dollar for two people within 1 hour of quick lunch. I think it's not really worth the bill and the salt and butter overpower the meat. There is only 1 chef to serve many tables. Good thing is that staff are friendly. I would probably not going back though.
