The fish head steamboat soup is very bland. Fish slices are tough too. Standard kind of dropped. The black sweet & sour pork is not hot when served. It seems thst the meat was pre-prepared and they just pour the sweet sauce over. Disappointing dining experience. Will not patronise again.

Had fish head hotpot for 20 dollars for 2 person. More fish meat than bones unlike other fishhead hotpot and the soup gets topped over and over. Extremely satisfying dinner

The fish soup is well balanced and tasty... Add noodles in it and tastes better than Japanese ramen!!! The sweet and sour pork taste very different from the usual... Family young and old loves this restaurant!!

Very decent fish head steamboat, big pieces of fish and yam swimming in the pool. The charcoal keeps the soup at a good temperature. They will constantly top up the soup, so 2 bowl of rice will make you very happy. The charcoal tofu and meat taste good. Place is just beside the parking lot so it's very old people friendly.

Charcoal fish head steamboat which I had been dying to try for awhile. Turns out it was kind of a bad idea. Having charcoal indoors with circulating fans made us spend half the time trying to turn away from the table just to avoid the toxic carbon monoxide fumes. The soup wasn’t rich and thick unlike some others I’ve had before (Wang Lee Seafood and Tian Wai Tian) and for the price point, it was not worth it. Fish slices were kinda slimy too. But I guess the thing that made me give a 2 instead of 3 stars was that the ladle was too huge for the base of the pot and we ended up not being able to scoop the ingredients without tilting the hotpot. Just sat there and watched the food burn and stick to the protruded part of the pot. To be fair, one upside is that you need not ask and they will give you a refill of the soup. Steamboat aside, the tofu with minced meat just scratched an okay. The salted egg portobello mushrooms however, were a huge disappointment. It was a salty yet sweet, milk-powder tasting combination — which was w e i r d. I would still have came to give it a try, but definitely won’t be coming back despite the rave reviews.

Ordered 3 things, sweet and sour pork, lala horfun, xinzhou beehoon. Sweet and sour pork is okay, can eat. Lala horfun and beehoon not enough taste, got msg but not salty enough. The crispy horfun is also airy and chewy already not crispy at all.

Ordered a Ginger Spring Chicken ($10) and a Grouper fish charcoal steamboat ($25). The concept of serving the Spring Chicken as a cold dish was innovative. But the dish lacked flavour. Although tender, the chicken meat did not have fragrance. Guessing it was due to the type of chicken used. The ginger toppings were also extremely oily. The steamboat was also lacking in flavour. Portion was generous, in terms of the white cabbage, yam, silken tofu, seaweed. Amount of fish was considerably less (I have had charcoal fish steamboat elsewhere with more meat at similar price point). Broth was a tad sweet and somewhat lacked dimension. Broth may be refilled for free. I did not find any dish outstanding from Lai Bao. I have tasted better, similar dishes elsewhere at comparable pricings.
