Pop by @pohcheukitchen to get their AKK and saw many people buying their other kuehs so decided to try too. Soon Kueh and Gu Chye Kueh has a thin translucent skin yet still able to hold up the filling well. Each kueh is packed with a generous portion of filling and very fresh. The soon kueh filling is crunchy and juicy. Abacus Seeds. I really like abacus seed and find it hard to find outside. Here at @pohcheukitchen I could taste the strong yam instead of flour. It has a very good chewy bite texture too. Topped with fried shallots and spring onions. SOOOO good. Glutinous Rice is decent. For the price, I think is worth it. AKK here is rounder kinda smaller in size but generous compact filling filled. The skin is amazingly soft and perfectly chewy like mochi. Surprisingly it didnโ€™t stick to teeth as most AKK does. Peanut. Generously filled with coarsely ground peanuts that gave a nice crunch. Peanut lover like me will love this max! Yam. The yam filling oozed out to my surprise. The yam paste like orh ni was very creamy and luscious, complementing the chewy skin very well. Durian. Strong smell even before I sank my teeth on. And first bite came thick, creamy and luscious durian filling. Black Seasme. Like yam the filling came oozing out. Very aromatic earthy taste. Coconut. The grated coconut with just the right sweetness. Fresh juicy. They also have very unique and interesting flavors which I first time have in AKK. Mango. The filling is firmer compare yam but as creamy and no artificial taste. Coffee. Has a strong coffee aroma and the paste very smooth. Green tea. Taste like mooncake filling. Smooth paste with a strong fragrance of green tea. Ig: @zoey_belle_

The queue can be quite long, stretching all the way to the road side. Waited for about 25 min before our turn. The taste of the ang ku kuih is ok.

Next to Everton Park's AKK, this famed establishment in the Bukit Merah area (easy to spot as the queue will announce the location of this stall better than any Google Map) serves the best tasting and variety of AKK. Not to be missed are also the yummy Soon Kueh and other traditional Chinese kuehs. Credit card accepted so you can guess the volume of business done and the large amounts people pack home.

Bought their Soon Kuey and thought that it might be nice since so many people queueing up. First time tried theirs and not nice at all. The skin was so thick, fillings very little. Compared to Tiong Bahru Jian Bo one, Tiong Bahru one nicer. And the sweet sauce in plastic packaging has a strong plastic smell...making the whole soon kuey has plastic smell. ? quite a disappointment.

Had these for our lunch! Hahaha! Had to spend some 20 minutes to queue for these even at 9:40am. But well worth the time. For the Soon Kueh, the seller double confirmed with me when I pointed to the Bamboo Shoot fillings range, before she started to pack. Apparently the more popular type is the turnip version. Many consumers do not like the smell of Bamboo Shoot. For the Ang Ku Kueh, the peanut filling is wifeyโ€™s favorite while the salted green bean is mine. We felt that the Ang Ku Kueh had somewhat shrunk.

???Ang ku kueh or red tortoise cakes are shaped to look like tortoise shellsย . They have many type of favor filling , my favorite the ever popular Black Sesame & Peanuts my favorite. You will be spoil for choice and end up choosing all type. ? Soon Kueh and Gu Chye Kueh has a soft translucent skin with crunchy fresh fillings of ingredients. Abacus Seeds very rarely you can find in the markets. Great taste and chewy. ???

Bought their Ang Ku Kueh only because I was curious what the people were lining up for at 11am. Not a fan of Ang Ku Kueh so was happily surprised that I loved their Ang Ku Kuehs. Skin was so soft even the morning after without steaming. Various flavours like peanut, black sesame, coconut, mango, green tea, red bean, durian, pineapple, coffee. Loved the black sesame the most. Nice to know there are still old stores like this that handmakes their food.

I believe it is very famous local sweet & food? I went to buy the Ang Ku Kueh with my colleague. I got stomate upset & diarrhea after I eat the Ang Ku Kueh. I should know because the staffs inside made the Ang Ku Kueh without any gloves on. They don't care about the hygiene. Also, the aunts at the cashier are very rude & impolite. Not one time but all the time. I companied my colleague there a few times. Be nice and pay more attention to the hygiene PLEASE!
