★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Was walking around the area and spotted this restaurant. Decided to give it a try. Service’s great and attentive. The food was tasty but had nothing much to shout out about. Overall I would say comfort food and if I’m in the area and having some tempura craving, I will visit for sure!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The experience at Tempura Makino was pleasant and delightful. The food was served fast by exceptionally friendly and polite staff. The food was served hot and I could tell the ingredients were fresh, especially the prawn; chewy, tender and juicy with every bite. The batter was just the right amount, giving each bite a good crunch. The vegetables were also fried nicely, in a way it didn't get too soggy from the oil but it's still crispy on the inside. The sauce complement well with everything and also enhances the flavour of the Japanese rice.
The price was justified by the filling and delicious meal. Aside from rice, customers can also opt for soba for the carbs. A delightful meal that I would recommend everyone to try!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Attracted to the shop by the high rating here. Waited about 30-40 mins in queue and for the food. Ordered the $25 mixed tempura, generous portion, batter on the veg tempura is good. Overall the tempura is not as crispy as I expected. The quality of rice is average. Service is very prompt and good. Didn't like the sweet potato dessert, the ice cream is ok but the tempura batter on the sweet potato doesn't match well (maybe better off with usual thin slice sweet potato than a wedge). My benchmark of sweet potato quality is donki type (this sweet potato is no way near)

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Ordered Makino Special Tendon ?25++ and topped up ?3++ to replace the rice with cold soba. Soba + tempura is the best match imo!
The egg tempura with flowy yolk is especially gratifying! Still craving for it! ?
The rest of the tempura such as prawn (3 pcs), kisu fish, anago, squid, maitake mushroom, eggplant, butternut pumpkin and french bean are fresh and satisfying too.
The tempura items are crispy when served, but turn slightly soggy/greasy towards the end of the meal. So fellow foodies, don’t spend too much time taking photos, just enjoy the food asap haha. The sauce that is drizzled over the tempura is somewhat salty, so I may request for less sauce next time.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Tasty tempura, squid is fried to the perfect texture. The sauce blends in well with everything. Packed with customers during peak hours. Salmon don is tasty too:) egg yoke ooze’s out as you poke the yoke ….mmmmm..

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Value-for-money tempura in a comfortable space with really polite staff (special shoutout to the friendly manager!!). Wide variety in their menu (from seafood, to vegetables & meat) and we enjoyed all the dishes we ordered. Especially liked the concept of being able to “build our own” tempura platters.
Despite being seated at the counter where the chefs were frying tempura, we did not leave the restaurant smelling like oil. Also did not feel “jerlat”/ greasy after the meal although it was all fried food - good sign that the tempura was not too oily!
Will definitely be back but highly recommend visiting an off-peak time to avoid queuing for a long time (we were in line from 6:30-7:30 today).

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Food is well prepared and consistent with the other reviews here. Service on the other hand was a little lacking with only the Filipino service staff doing most of the leg work while the others just stood around. Some tables were waiting for help to get their orders taken but couldn’t get the attention of the other 2 staff who were hanging around the kitchen area and not attending to the customers. We were seated at the booth nearest to the kitchen area where the food were brought out and it’s quite distracting with the couple of them standing around and making comments on what was going on in the restaurant and watching the one other guy clean tables and helping the customers.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ the best tempura I've ever eaten!! it's very light and crispy and clean. the dipping sauce was savory without being overly salty. I went for the prawn and veg tempura set with rice, and tasted the salmon bowl (which had very fresh, well seasoned salmon that wasn't fishy at all!!) definitely on the pricey side but worth the price, especially for a celebratory event :) super glad we came a bit early on a weekday so it wasn't crowded, and the seating was cozy, private, and pretty too. the only sad thing was that we never got the extra bowls we asked for, even after asking to two waiters :/
