Craving for some quality Japanese food, decided to visit Sushi Tei at Raffles City. A popular Izakaya, there were a couple of people already in line at 6:20pm before a table was ready around 6:40pm. Ordered up some favourites to enjoy as well as some items off the Winter Seasonal Menu. The Sashimi here are fresh as always although a bit pricier than elsewhere. The Yu Sheng served at here is really good quality and being able to add on some extra slices of other types of fish helps to suit the dish more to the cravings of the diners. The A5 Snow Wagyu Steak though yummy, was not fantastic. However, the Snow Wagyu Sushi Roll was a much better option and tastier too. General Verdict: Izakaya serving quality dishes that are enjoyable with the occasional seasonal menu, but some dishes were less than ideal Opening Hours: Daily 11:30am-10pm Queue Situation: Generally no queue but expect to wait 20-30mins for a table from 6pm-8:30pm, no reservations Price: SG$60++ upwards per pax Payment Mode: Cash and all Major Credit Cards (Physical and Paywave) Items Ordered: 1) Yu Sheng - Add on of Hamachi (Yellowtail) and Mekajiki (Swordfish) Description: Tasty Yu Sheng that can be customised to suit one's preference in terms of fish add-on but is a little dry Verdict: Good, Can Order Price: SG$42.80++ (Medium), SG$11.80++ (Hamachi), SG$9.80++ (Mekajiki) 2) Aburi Ika Sushi - FlambΓ© Squid Sushi Description: Lightly flamed squid helped to remove the top layer membrane that made the texture of eating it enjoyable and yummy Verdict: Good, Can Order Price: SG$2.30++ 3) Otoro Sushi - Fatty Tuna Sushi Description: Yummy fatty tuna that tasted like a medium-rare wagyu giving that wonderful and enjoyable flavour Verdict: Very Good, Must Order Price: SG$6.30++ 4) Maguro Trio Temari - Chutoro (Semi-fatty Tuna Belly), Akami (Lean Tuna) and Otoro (Tuna Belly) Sushi Description: A tasty spread of the different types of Maguro (Tuna) Sushi Verdict: Very Good, Must Order Price: SG$13.80++ 5) Agedashi Tofu - Deep Fried Beancurd Description: Crispy and soft at the same time in a wonderful tasty dashi Verdict: Good, Can Order Price: SG$5.20++ 6) Premium Truffle Snow Wagyu Sushi Roll - Seared A5 Wagyu Sushi Roll topped with Truffle Slice, Black Caviar & Special Sauce Description: Each bite was a flavour explosion in the mouth Verdict: Very Good, Must Order Price: SG$21.80++ 7) A5 Snow Wagyu Steak - Pan-fried A5 Sakura Snow Beef Wagyu Striploin Steak with Special Sauce Description: A tasty piece of Steak that unfortunately did not taste any extra special Verdict: Acceptable, Order only if you want to try Price: SG$34.80++ 8) Ebi Gyoza - Prawn pot sticker Dumpling Description: Soggy oily dish with each piece struggling to hold the ingredients in as it was breaking easily and dripping oil Verdict: Fail, Don't Waste Time Price: SG$6.30++ 9) Fuyu Matsuri Fried Platter - Deep fried Shitake, Golden Mushroom, Shrimp, Red Tail Fish served with Corn with Truffle Tartar Sauce Description: A good mix of ingredients that were tasty and paired really well with the Tartar Sauce Verdict: Very Good, Must Order Price: SG$13.80++ 10) Tonkatsu - Deep Fried Pork Cutlet Description: Battered pork cutlet that was succulent, juicy and yummy Verdict: Good, Can Order Price: SG$9.80++ 11) Tonkotsu Udon - Pork Bone soup with thick Noodle Description: Simple flavourful soup based that paired really well with the Udon and providing that wonderful comfort feel Verdict: Very Good, Must Order Price: SG$8.80++ 12) Su Soba - Wheat Noodle in clear broth Description: A light clear Dashi that paired really well with the Soba but the Soba was not firm and rather flaky Verdict: Acceptable, Order only if you want to try Price: SG$8.80++ 13) Taiyaki Ice Cream - Vanilla Ice Cream with a chocolate coating served in a fish shell Description: Tasty dessert that has a nice level of sweetness Verdict: Good, Can Order Price: SG$3.80++ 14) Yuzu Sherbet Description: Refreshing citrus dessert that helps to cleanse the palate at the end of the meal Verdict: Good, Can Order Price: SG$3.80++

They are very accommodative when we celebrate our kid's birthday. They offered us a nice table to have our family pictures and birthday ?

Certainly more expensive than say S#### sushi, but the sashimi was also definitely of better quality. The seafood salad has always been a favourite, the wife loves the sesame sauce. We try to eat relatively clean so I appreciate that the salad sauce is served on the side (without asking). Service was prompt, kept topping up our green tea till we had to refuse... Too bloated haha! I would say that, for a chain, it's done well for its price point. I am sure there are better alternatives for Japanese food, but for families with young kids sometimes what we want is just for a restaurant to be available in many places and to have consistently good food across all branches. Sushi Rei delivers this. Have to add, this particular branch in Raffles City was spacious - which we consider a major plus for a pandemic/endemic situation.

Used to love Sushi Tei here, but it wasn’t up to expectation now. Ordered the Asari Sake, it was warm not hot, the more I ate to the bottom, the more sand I found in my soup and clam. I have to kind of swoosh wash the clam meat in my soup to be able to eat it without biting my teeth off. Salmon carpaccio is good, I remembered this comes with seaweed, but it wasn’t on that day. The vinegar sauce was different from last time. Salmon was fresh though. Squid and sushi were okay, sushi rice was on the harder side, not so melty. Seafood hotpot was kinda small but okay. Overall the service is very attentive, very friendly and kind staff at this branch. Keep it up!

Excellent system and service, staff kept refilling our warm water. The place was a bit cold though. Great maki, especially the salmon avocado, super fresh and tasty. They were quite generous with the fish roe too. I wouldn't recommend their mentaiko tempura mushroom. It was way too oily, doesn't make one feel comfortable eating it.

This is my favourite Sushi Tei branch! The service is very efficient, courteous and friendly. Many of the staff have been with them for a long time. Even during peak periods, you are able to get attention from the staff to refill your tea or get condiments. The special requests for less oily or less salty food is also well communicated with the kitchen crew. I usually order the grilled hamachi collar or salmon head. Very tasty and cook perfectly!
