β β β β β Six months ago, on a casual morning just before her 6th birthday, my female Shiba, Yozi's left eye suddenly became cloudy/milky and we were so freaked fearing she's blind.... With a stroke of luck we got to see Dr. Teo at Vets For Life the same afternoon who administrated an emergency anterior chamber paracentesis that helped to relieve the eye pressure and preserved the residual eye sights for Yozi. At the same time, Yozi was diagnosed with advanced primary glaucoma....
So like many owners, we googled extensively and like many... the same conclusion dawned on us: daily eye drops until it fails entirely at which point the eye will be lost...What's even more depressing was, usually within a short period of time, the other eye will eventually experience the same eventuality.... The new hit me hard... harder than Covid ....
One day in Nov, Yozi started to blink frequently in one afternoon (a sign that the eye pressure is spiking), we went to see Dr. Teo and she told us about this new procedure called Endolaser that could be the last hope for Yozi. We wasted no time in fixing an appointment with Dr. Gladys Boo who explained extensively about the procedure. We decided to go with the surgery literally on the spot.
Finally in early January 2022, Yozi had her 4 hour long, 3-in-1 surgery (tube-shunt, endolaser and cataract). I was literally on my toes the whole day while waiting for the clinic's call which eventually came later in the afternoon. It was a success ! Her eye pressure dropped immediately from over 60 mmhg one week before the surgery (when Yozi was on maximum daily dosage of the eye drops that meant she's really running out of time/options) and 40+ mmhg immediately before the surgery to 17 mmhg and we can tell she can still see from her left eye after the surgery.
It has been over two weeks since her surgery and her eye pressure has been stable at below 17mmhg which is a huge relief for us and Dr. Boo and her wonderful team (Mary and Dr. Jelisa).
I'm so grateful that we met Dr. Teo whose emergency procedure on Yozi and her later referral to Dr. Boo made it possible to save Yozi's eye. As to Dr. Boo and her team, words can never do them justice in how professional and caring they were towards all the furry patients. I cant even imagine the pressure the team was enduring every day handling such delicate eye surgeries and the intensive care required immediately post surgery. Yet every time I see them, they are always patient and energetic in addressing all our concerns and would even return our calls late in the evening.
My only hope is that the pet community in the country could be more aware/educated of the early symptoms of glaucoma and other eye issues along with those tested procedures/alternatives including endolaser and shunts, they may not be perfect but at least now there is hope and the earlier the intervention, the better for our furry friends.

β β β β β I am very fortunate to have met Dr Gladys Boo and thankful that Singapore finally has her first and very own board-certified ophthalmologist. Previously, I could only wait till my dogs had the chance to travel to get their OFA eye checks overseas, done by other board-certified ophthalmologists. Dr Gladys Boo checked my puppiesβ eyes and I cannot thank her enough for her help as they were misdiagnosed earlier by a general practitioner vet clinic. She is kind, thorough and experienced - she even knew the range of βnormalβ eyes that could be expected with shelties of different colours. Eager to raise eye health standards in Singapore, Dr Boo shared her knowledge generously with other attending vets during my puppiesβ check up. Her gentle manner also set the puppies at ease and the examination was done so skilfully that they did not mind the eye drops and instruments. Two thumbs up for Dr Boo - we love her and will definitely stick with her for our eye health needs. β€οΈ

β β β β β I am eternally grateful to Dr Gladys for saving my catβs eyes! My cat was diagnosed with entropion (inward rolling of the eyelids) causing his eyelashes to constantly rub against his eyes, resulting in corneal ulcers. He was in so much pain that he could not open both his eyes, all the time. I was extremely stressed over my catβs eye condition and felt so helpless until I met Dr Gladys who immediately reassured me that she could help fix my catβs eyes. I could tell that my cat was feeling so much better just a day after the surgery. My cat would not be as bright-eyed and pain-free as he is today (see below for his before and after photos!) if not for Dr Gladys! She is the only vet and ophthalmologist whom I trust with my petsβ eyes!

β β β β β Our 15 year-old mini-dachshund had late stage cataracts on both eyes and was literally blind. He was afraid to go on walks, meet other dogs and would keep bumping into furniture and walls at home because of his blindness. We waited almost 2 months for Dr. Gladys Boo to have the new surgical equipment properly setup at The Eye Specialist for Animals, operating out of Beecroft Specialist Hospital. She apparently had just returned from Australia having secured her specialist status and needed time to settle into her new practice here.
After speaking with her during our first consultation, we instantly got a boost of confidence about the surgery - something i didnβt have with other GPs we were seeing at the time. Her vast experience in eye surgeries and deep understanding of eye diseases and their respective treatment options, impressed us. I guess thatβs the difference a specialist brings. She knows the area inside out and is ready for any complications that may arise.
The wait was well worth it! Itβs been 12 days since the surgery. My dog can now see and greet us when we come through the door. Just like the old days. He is happy and confident once again. We are beyond grateful for this. ???
Not only was Dr Gladys Boo skilled in eye surgeries, her team was stellar. It comprises of an eye vet nurse (Mary) and an eye vet intern (Dr. Jelisa). They really cared about my dogβs recovery and were extremely detailed, professional, and warm when sharing with us what to expect, pre and post the surgery. They were happy (almost eager) to answer all my questions no matter how small. At no point did we feel lost about what to do. Frustration free! Like a breath of fresh air. And mind you, they had surgeries packing their calendar at the time. So it wasnβt like they had a lot of time on their hands.
One last point, surgery wasnβt cheap. But it was worth every single dime! Dr. Boo is the only certified vet ophthalmologist in Singapore. And her team is rock solid. How does one price peace of mind?

β β β β β We had Chocolate for five years and adopted her as a little kitten. We had the knowledge that she had a congenital eye defect, but were told that it was not a problem and would not cause her any pain. We were referred to Dr Gladys at The Eye Specialist for Animals by Dr Alice at Gentle Oaks Vet. To our shock, Dr Alice was the first vet we met to inform us that because Chocolate's eyelids never fully developed, her eyelashes had been rubbing against her eyeballs and causing her a lot of pain for all these years, and even causing damage to her cornea. We are very thankful that Dr Alice informed us of this or we would have never known! We are also extremely thankful that Dr Gladys was able to help our baby by performing an eyelid reconstructive surgery for her. Though the experience was very stressful for us and especially Chocolate, Dr Gladys and her amazing team, Dr Jelisa and Mary have helped us wonderfully through everything. They constantly were there to give us reassurance and advice. Chocolate's eyes look so much better now and she is able to fully close her eyelids. Her cornea also looks much healthier already. We would like to thank Dr Gladys and her team again for saving Chocolate's eyes and helping her feel better. Chocolate says she is much happier and healthier, and thanks you too :)

β β β β β I brought my macaw Iago to Dr Gladys after being referred to her as the vets I saw could not help me with Iago's eye issues. Dr Gladys' expertise was apparent from the first consultation I had with her. She was very informative and took the time to explain the diagnosis, how the issues came to be, and treatments going forward. She recommended cataract surgery for Iago's working eye, which was done a few months later. After removing the cataract, Iago's eyesight has improved greatly. He follows me everywhere and takes treats out of my hands, which he wasn't able to do before. He even tries to fly away from the nurse during his check ups! Dr Gladys also recorded a video of the surgery and took the time to explain each step that she performed. Iago and I are truly blessed to have met her.

β β β β β Dr Gladys was very professional and caring when treating my dog, Charles. She was very patient and informative when talking to me. I felt comfortable and confident in making the decisions for Charles because of Dr Gladysβs guidance and advice. Even though her schedule was packed, she was willing to take Charles in and perform an emergency procedure on him due to the urgency of the situation.

β β β β β Professional, great customer care and attention. Amazing team led by Dr Gladys Boo. Big thanks to her and her solid team of support, my dog, Ollie underwent a bilateral cataract surgery in January 2022 and has since recovered and healed beautifully with vision fully restored on day 1 of post-op. We had used 6 bottles of a special eye drop that claims to reduce and slow down growth of cataract. It didn't work so I am thankful to have met Dr Boo and got Ollie's vision and confidence restored. And now with perfect vision, Ollie is super happy for he acts and plays like a puppy, has a very healthy appetite and is always smiling with his eyes!
