Climb Central Funan

Had a fantastic time climbing at Funan. Staff were down to earth, friendly and professional and there was never any waiting time to use the ropes or automatic delays and his despite it being busy. There was a good vibe about the place.

Great location and decent route setting, great for first timers and visitors. Gym isn't very big and routes are reset very infrequently.

Great climbing experience as usual but the safety briefing at the beginning could've been more thorough for first timers. Several lanes for manual belaying, lesser lanes for auto belay, separate section for bouldering. Well managed this COVID-19 period, many procedures in place and masks on at all times to ensure sanitation and hygiene.

Usually one of my favourite places to climb. BUT yesterday, this female staff/manager in a black CC tshirt with long single braided hair began scolding me while I was belaying my friend who was mid-climb. I understand that my method may not be incorrect, but there was no need to scold me REPEATEDLY in such a harsh tone saying stuff like: 1. “LOOK AT ME. YOUR FRIEND IS GOING TO FALL ALL THE WAY DOWN IF YOU DO THAT.” 2. “STOP MOVING AROUND!” Mind you, all these was said harshly and when my friend was still mid-climb. I was frantically panicking under even more confusing instructions, with a lot of spare rope left thanks to her shouting fervently in my face, “left hand right hand” commands. If my method was seriously wrong, please just take over me to help belay and then give proper advice when both of us are on the ground. It was definitely a very stressful experience for me. Dear CC, please train your staff to have some respect for fellow beginner climbers. I know you can say that lives are at stake, but seriously? All of these mid-climb and giving more distress to the belayer? I believe this endangers both parties even more. Not cool. Date of Incident: 10 June 2022, 5:45pm-6pm.

We (party of 4 incl my 6 year old son) wanted to climb on Sunday 19 June at about 4pm. We completed the waiver forms that included DOB, home address, phone contact and email but to compete the entry process we were required to have our pictures taken. I protested that there was no need for pictures esp of my minor son , and it was a gross intrusion to require photos in addition of the already substantial personal information being collected. Tejas who appeared to be the person in charge, first said ‘it’s required by law’ and when I said no way it was the law , he then admitted it was just their policy. I said we have provided a lot info and signed the liability release and that a pic seemed superfluous but to no avail. Very silly I thought, they were prepared to loose business to prioritize personal info harvesting - I would not recommend.

Friendly staff. 1st time climbing thus, had a 15/30min briefing with practice and enjoyment afterwards. Briefing was clear and precise to our needs as 1st timers. Definitely will go down again

Very friendly and helpful staff! There are a few auto belay lanes and regular lanes (where you can belay even without the cert). I notice that the lead climbing walls are quite empty here as compared to those at Kallang.

Great place to climb. As it is located in a mall, it can be awkward with onlookers and some parts of the wall is just next to the upstairs restaurant. No need SNCS Level 1 or belay device to belay as they have a floor belay system which does not require certification and auto-belay lanes. However, if you want to use an ABD, you need an additional one-time verification (need to book and pay).. which is a must if doing lead. Routes are quite diverse with many easy to difficult routes. I climb up to about 6c and 2hrs is definitely not enough to clear all the routes. They use a pie chart system which I am not sure how it compares to the French grading but I can climb to about 4 pies (which is think is about 6b+/6c) They also have a separate bouldering wall which has a kilter board. Do note currently Covid-19 restrictions only allow 2hrs per climb and booking slots in peak timings could be a hassle as it is a popular gym.
