★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Eatery with legendary Fried Kway teow inside must try this stall. Otherwise it's a fairly small coffeeshop and can very crowded during peak hours.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This eatery make you feel like the clock has been turned back by a decade or two. The food served there has a home cooked feel which is really nice. Give it a try and you will understand what I mean. There is also a prawn noodle store at this eatery, please try it to feel the difference. It’s the best in town but surely it will bring back old memories. Was told the soup is cook using charcoal.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ As someone mentioned, taken back in time in this old style coffee shop.
Char Kway Teow is one of the few good ones left. Seems to have enough wok hei.
Aunty May forget who ordered what ;)
Next time will try the prawn noodle shop as everyone seems to be eating it.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I came here for the Joo Chiat Place Char Kway Teow (CKT) after seeing some favourable online reviews. This stall was featured on a Channel 5 program on 22nd Feb 2011. Father started the business after the War and now son, George, helms the stall, supposedly carrying on the traditional cooking style of the ‘60s. On the day of my visit, the CKT was fried by a middle-aged lady. Maybe my expectation was higher because of the hype but in my humble opinion, the taste is pretty standard (on the dry side) and not spectacular. You will not find me making a purposeful trip to eat this CKT. However, the Teochew zi char in Dong Cheng coffeeshop seemed to be popular and I may try it one day.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A very old coffee shop along Joo Chiat Place. If you walk behind the kitchen area, you can find it's really old, dirty. I think is good time for the owner to do a good renovation of this coffee shop. However, the char kway teow is quite famous here. Lady will fry one portion by one portion. So sometimes you need to wait for a while. The prawn mee also not bad. Quite a lot of regulars especially in the morning. The Zhi Cha call 古早坊,not too bad. Price quite reasonable.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The CKT is nice and I like it (dry type without much dark sauce).. is just that the portion is quite small for $4
