Lao He Ji

Stall is located within kopitiam food court at IMM. It's pretty popular and has a queue from time to time. Decided to do a takeaway for their fried hokkien mee. The noodles are the wet type, personally I prefer it this way as the noodles are coated with the gravy evenly. The noodles doesn't have a strong prawn taste, perhaps due to the lack of prawn stock. That said, the dish is well cooked with hints of wok hey charring some bits of the noodles. The dish is also generously topped with fried garlic bits that not only gives a great crunch but also accentuates the wok hey notes too. Interestingly, my order came with chilli sauce that has the real bits instead of sambal that's common elsewhere. But mind you, they pack a serious punch and complement the noodles well without flattening the noodles into a one dimensional dish. The portion for the noodles are satisfying, but don't expect generous servings of prawns. My order came with just 2. Owner seems like a nice chap and do stop to chat when it isn't too busy. Food seems to hold up well as a takeaway! Visited in March 2021.
